If symptoms start 6 days after test?

Does he have to restart his isolation? Husband tested positive on Monday, but symptoms have only started this morning. Does he have to restart his 10 days? My isolation ends on Monday, as I tested positive before him. Should I continue to isolate with him?

No - symptoms are irrelevant- you go on the test, assuming you mean a PCR, not a LFT.

No, I had this issue and called 119 for advice. They said providing I had no temperature, D&V or sneezing by day 10 then I could go out.

Brilliant Thankyou

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you test positive and are asymptomatic then developing symptoms does restart your 10 days, with the day you developed symptoms becoming "day 0."

This is a fairly well hidden part of the rules that I have never really heard mentioned so I suspect that many people are unaware and have not followed this as they are supposed to!

Sorry I should have added that you don't need to restart your isolation and as long as you feel well you are still free to go out and about from the original date.

@Waxonwaxoff0 119 advice s incorrect.
Person needs to keep isolating if they have symptoms after day 10. A relative recently had the same issue and she kept having to isolate till she was symptomless, to be fair she was pretty poorly plus a nasty cough to even leave the house.

You don't have to continue isolating if you have a cough as the cough can last for weeks. Same with loss of taste and smell. They said you DO have to keep isolating if you have a temperature, D&V or sneezing but not for other symptoms.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 29/08/2021 09:46

The self isolation clock resets after you start having symptoms.

@Waxonwaxoff0 I said she was poorly plus a very bad cough.
She was had to go on an antiobiotics course.
She followed the medical advice.
So yes she was pretty poorly.

Yes, that's fair enough in her case. But it's incorrect saying you have to stay at home until symptomless, it's only for certain symptoms. Covid coughs can last for weeks/months.
