Fatigue after covid vaccine - how long is normal?

My usually high energy never-tired dd has been exhausted for the past week. She had a slight burst of energy on Wednesday/Thursday but she is again feeling flat and exhausted today despite having had a good night's sleep. She has been doing her normal activities but she seems completely wiped out by them. Even her work colleagues noticed today that she wasn't her usual energetic self, and when she came home, she just dissolved into tears because she had no energy.

I'm pretty sure she isn't worrying about anything, and there are no obvious signs of sickness. She has been doing regular lateral flow tests, all negative. The only thing I am wondering about is whether it could be a side effect of the vaccine?

She had her first dose of pfizer a week ago, and I would say the fatigue started just after that. I can see that fatigue is a common side effect, but is it possible that she would still be experiencing side effects as much as a week later? Or should I be taking her to the GP in case it's something else?

It's very out of character, so I can't help but worry.

I had Astra Zeneca a while ago so I cannot comment on Pfizer. I suffered extreme tiredness after both doses. It wasn't instant after the vaccine. At last a few days later and lasted a week or so. Gradually got better. I couldn't get through the day without falling sleep. I wasn't getting much done in the day as I was too exhausted.

I had the same with my first AZ dose, massive fatigue for a week or so the day after my jav; my GP said she'd had a few patients reporting similar.

I had my second a couple of days ago, and don't feel like I've been hit by the fatigue bus (yet!).)..

One of my friends seems to be suffering from the equivalent of post viral exhaustion after her first Pfizer jab. Off work for a few weeks and having to return really gradually.

My experience of covid was that people got side effects similar to those they got when infected. So people who were bed bound for a few weeks when infected were in bed for a few days.

People who had barely any symptoms got almost no side effects.

The fatigue I got from actual covid lasted 6 months. Hopefully your daughter's symptoms will ease in a week or two.

Hi OP. My only symptom was fatigue. For a good week both times. I'd say that's very normal and a sign your body is fighting off a new threat as a vaccine is supposed to.

I know it's difficult but try not to worry.

I'm glad I came across this thread.

I had my second AZ jab almost 2 weeks ago and have been feeling completely wiped out for the last week or so. Fine with 1st jab. I can't get through the day without a nap which is unusual for me and I still need to go to bed at normal time too!

Also been experiencing chest pains too but not sure if that is related to it.

Thanks all. Seems that fatigue after the vaccine may be pretty common, so hopefully it's just one of those things. It has been a bit up and down with dd - intermittent. Has that been the same for anyone else?
