After getting my invite in April and due to my anxiety going back and forth I finally got my first vaccine today Pfizer , Just to put anyone who also is as nervous and who suffers anxiety maybe at ease I was absolutely terrified going in had a panic attack after the injection but the staff are absolutely amazing little nurse sat with me for 15-20 mins and was wonderful makes such a difference having someone talk you down and just being a lovley human being , I have few health conditions and slightly overweight so it’s a relief to finally have it done and hopefully protect my self and others.

Take Care 😊💜

Horray!

Pinkpowderpuff · 28/08/2021 14:33

Same situ here - was offered it in May and after weeks of deliberation finally got it on Thursday. They were absolutely amazing with me too.

RedToothBrush · 28/08/2021 14:44

Well done to you both!

I wish there were more publicity for people in similar situations about how they can help and support people struggling with anxiety to get vaccinated. Its a bigger problem than is realised.

sprinkleyumnut · 28/08/2021 14:46

Well done OP. I had my second Pfizer just over a week ago.

Well done both of you!! I was nervous as hell too. Almost had a panic attack for the first vaccine. The nurse was so kind and held my hand and talked to me for ages. Second time round the anxiety wasn’t bad at all!

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 28/08/2021 16:15

I just had my second and I wanted to kiss the doctor.
It felt magical to be honest. Part of humanity doing an awesome thing.

Thewholeshackshimmy · 28/08/2021 16:33

I have had a panic attack each time I’ve tried to go. I am going to try again this Monday. I’m terrified. I am terrified of getting Covid and equally for the jab. I (obviously) have some ongoing mental health issues and am having weekly sessions with a psychologist but it’s not helping my fear much. I know that I need the jab just need to tell my stupid anxiety.

Pinkpowderpuff · 28/08/2021 16:42

@Thewholeshackshimmy I was exactly the same - scared of the jab, scared of covid. It's the schools starting back next week that tipped the balance for me, especially after seeing what's happening in Scotland. That and I just felt it was the right/expected thing to do really. And also I didn't want the DC to feel guilty about passing it to me if they catch it and making me severely ill with it when I had the choice to take a vaccination and hopefully keep it 'mild'. I was very teary the whole time I was there, they were very patient with me and really tried to put me at ease and didn't pressure me either way. I ended up telling them that I couldn't go through with it then in the next second told them to just get it done. They didn't need telling twice! I'm still a bit wobbly about having had it but I can't get it back out now so just cracking on with it.

Pinkpowderpuff · 28/08/2021 16:44

I would also like to add that I booked and cancelled three times, ended up just doing a walk in clinic in the end, less pressure. I also ended up stood outside the place three or four times before I managed to go in and it took 20 minutes of hanging around outside on Thursday before I plucked up the courage to walk in.

Thewholeshackshimmy · 28/08/2021 16:53

Pinkpowderpuff well done for plucking up the courage, that’s brilliant and a huge step which some others just don’t get. I feel exactly the same as you about my kids returning to school next week. I am also going into hospital for a day procedure on the 13th and really need it done before then even though I’m worried it’ll be a bit late by then. I’ve had my jab booked and cancelled so many times. DH has said it’ll be better to just turn up at a drop in centre like he did so that’s what I’m hopefully going to do on Monday. Am dreading it.

Geamhradh · 28/08/2021 16:56

Well done Flowers Brew

FeelingJittery1 · 28/08/2021 17:00

@Thewholeshackshimmy I was very much like you- booked and cancelled- drive to the vaccination centre and could go in. Each day was a huge burden- I kept reading about the vaccines, and made appointments with the gp- which frankly was useless. I kept turning to mumsnet for support only to encounter some horrid comments and in one earlier posts one even called me an anti vaxxer!

This is what I did- I stopped reading and fact finding- came off all social media as much as possible. Didn’t book it as I would back off - one morning husband and I decided to drive to a walk in centres to check out- I chose one in an hospital- for me the sombre atmosphere of a hospital helped as supposed to a more laid back community centre-

I told the lady in the entrance that I was nervous and pretty much broke down- they took me inside and each step I was a mess but I did progress - I had Pfizer

I’m 40 so you can understand this whole pressure was driving me nuts from when we were called.

All I’ll say is pleas don’t feel bad about how you feel- no point in history have any human being been under so much pressure to get a vaccine- it’s all around from morning until night- one day AZ is good, another day Pfizer is good, one day AZ causes issues, another day Pfizer causes issues…it’s endless

Some find it hard to cope- and you are one if them. Hope you get to a pint to do what you are comfortable with-

If you do get the vaccine please don’t read anything about side effects etc either- that’s another thing which will drive you up the wall. If you feel that you need something checked do it via a real life medical professional

Hope this helps.

Thewholeshackshimmy · 28/08/2021 17:37

FeelingJittery1 thank you so very much, that has really helped.

Cookerhood · 28/08/2021 20:55

Feelingjittery1 what a lovely post. I'm one of those who has been frustrated with some of your posts, but that one is very kind & thoughtful.

XenoBitch · 28/08/2021 22:40

Well done, OP.
I am in my 40s and can't even book. Also worried about being berated for leaving it so long.

Cookerhood · 28/08/2021 22:48

No-one will even mention that you've waited so long if you mean the vaccinators. I've been jabbing plenty of people in their 50s this week. People have all sorts of reasons which are no-one else's business.

Thewholeshackshimmy · 29/08/2021 10:17

Cookerhood that’s reassuring. I’ve been so very worried that I’ll stick out like a sore thumb at 48 and going in for my first one.
