I have had covid, am i unreasonble to not get the vaccine

Surely i have antibodies now, and i had a very very mild case. I do not want the vaccine. Do you think i am being unreasonable. I am not scared to have another bout as i have had worse colds? I do not know any vulnerable people and would isolate as soon as i had symptoms.. surely this is ok no?

@MaxNormal there is also this line in that report
'Individuals who were both previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 and given a single dose of the vaccine gained additional protection against the Delta variant'

Abraxan · 26/08/2021 12:16

So if im isolating with symptoms how can i ever pass it onto anybody?

Asymptomatic transmission happens.
You can transmit covid during your incubation period, and that is often before you show any symptoms.

MaxNormal · 26/08/2021 12:17

@toomuchlaundry yes, a smallish percentage. Probably useful to weigh that against possible vaccine side effects though.

That's really interesting, thank you for posting the link.

toomuchlaundry · 26/08/2021 12:26

@MaxNormal has the article been peer reviewed?

MargaretThursday · 26/08/2021 12:27

Before the article even starts it says.

This article is a preprint and has not been certified by peer review [what does this mean?]. It reports new medical research that has yet to be evaluated and so should not be used to guide clinical practice.

I'd like to suggest that if they don't understand what "peer review" means, then it is very unlikely they're a reputable source.

zaffa · 26/08/2021 12:28

Yes. I've had covid, doubled vaxxed and just had a positive lateral flow so waiting a PcR test. Having her covid doesn't mean you won't get it again. Even being vaxxed doesn't mean that

bumbleymummy · 26/08/2021 12:37

@MargaretThursday The ‘what does this mean’ is a link to an explanation about what peer-review is.

annlee3817 · 26/08/2021 12:37

Mild covid in Feb, antibody test in June... No antibodies, so on that basis if get the vaccine, but totally up to you

annlee3817 · 26/08/2021 12:38

I'd get I meant
I'm double jabbed now

Stigofthedump40 · 26/08/2021 12:41

Thanks everyone i will take on board all the points made, just wondering now if everybody is going to be having boosters every few months for life now Confused

I think that people should have choice about the vaccine but I also feel that you need to inform yourself before making that decision OP. Do you really not understand that you can spread thai before you have symptoms or that having it mildly once does not mean that if you have it again it might be a different story?

bumbleymummy · 26/08/2021 12:45

@Thesearmsofmine the incidence of reinfections is really low. More serious reinfections are even rarer.

Thesearmsofmine · 26/08/2021 13:00

But not unheard of.

bumbleymummy · 26/08/2021 13:03

Well it’s not unheard of to be struck by lightning twice either…

Thesearmsofmine · 26/08/2021 13:04

But after being struck once you would most likely do everything in your power to stop it happening again.

ohfourfoxache · 26/08/2021 13:10

My severely immunocompromised mum has lost 75% of her antibodies after being double jabbed

I also very strongly suspect I had covid in March 2020 but by the time I had an antibody test in September 2020 I had no antibodies at all

Suspect that this isn’t over by a long shot

illuyankas · 26/08/2021 13:15

Meh. Whatever you want.

HandlebarLadyTash · 26/08/2021 13:18

I would just get the vaccine & move on.
My workplace is following other workplaces looking at time off /illness procedures for vaccinated & not vaccinated people. The not vaccinated will not be getting the same package as the vaccinated.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 26/08/2021 13:20

You can catch covid again and again ffs
Get vacinated

MaxNormal · 26/08/2021 13:20

Antibodies are just one facet of the immune system though ohfourfoxache

Your immune system will know how to make the appropriate ones quickly now.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 26/08/2021 13:21

My friend was vaccinated and caught it 3 times in the span of a few months. The last time, ot was the worst, took her 1 month to recover and she has only just gone gack to work.
she's a doctor and working in the covid ward, so shes in the front line.

bumbleymummy · 26/08/2021 13:30

@UnshakenNeedsStirring how was she able to confirm that? You can’t confirm by pcr within 90 days of a positive test because it can still be detecting traces from the previous infection.

May well become an annual thing for anyone older or vulnerable, just like the flu vaccine is - or eventually also available to anyone who wants it for a small cost, again like the flu vaccine is.

I'm CV and have had a free annual flu vaccine for several years. Last year I also have a pneumonia one. 19y Dd has had an annual flu vaccine for last 4 years after she got flu during her mock exams, she wanted to reduce the risk of it happening again. We pay for hers. Both of us have this year's vaccines booked in for September.

Abraxan · 26/08/2021 13:33

I had covid in October and a virus-acquired antibody test in May. I had antibodies still.
