My dads not doing well - he is is the icu in another country. I don’t know what will happen as we are taking each hour at a time-

My question is I’ve had my 1st dose of Pfizer 15 days back- how would I find if I have any protection?

How soon is sensible to gave the second dose? Having it too close is pointless as I understand as the body needs time to build antibodies

Is there a reputable site where I can get this information

If I’m not double vaccinated I’ll have to quarantine for 14 days if I travel over there

21 days for maximum protection from first dose. Second doses are being given at 8 weeks.

FeelingJittery1 · 25/08/2021 15:58

Is there a way to find out a % protection for the 1st dose after 21 days

Not really in any meaningful way that would help you decide whether to get the next one early or not - sorry!

Personally I would still be happy to get pfizer 21 days apart as you do still get good protection, there's a lot we don't know regarding spacing, but obviously it's a personal decision Flowers

You can order a spike antibody test like this one:

www.zoomdoc.com/product/covid19-vaccine-antibody-test/

But you really should wait 21 days at least before taking a test like that. And one vaccine is unlikely to provide proper protection from Delta.

Cookerhood · 25/08/2021 16:18

Most vaccination centres won't give you your second one before 8 weeks as that's what gives you the best protection. It is licenced for 21 days & some will but you'd have to search to find one. Others will with a doctor's note (but would be probably have to be for medical reasons.

Cookerhood · 25/08/2021 16:19

And your antibody levels won't really tell you much.

I know you are trying to stay off social media (except here, which doesn't seem to be good for you), but if you seek out @sailorscout on Twitter they are very informative & upbeat, not doom & gloom.

What are you worried about, OP? Is it catching Covid or having to jump through all the legal shenanigans?

If you are not going to go to a super hotspot, you aren’t going to be at any more risk than you are at home - keep doing hands, face, space.

My DD tested positive last week (8 weeks after her first jab).. She had super mild symptoms so did a LFT which was +ve followed by a +ve PCR. The rest of the family have had -ve PCRs, which include her sister who was 8 weeks out with a single jab, and one who had her second jab the day before. DH and I are both double jabbed and have not picked up the disease.

What I am suggesting is that the probability of getting a severe form of the disease is low, and low of passing it on. Obviously my family is one anecdote, but it seems to pan out with the general population.

As far as the legal requirement to quarantine is concerned, I don’t think antibody levels are part of the equation yet.

Horrible when this happens to real families in dire situations. Hope your dad rallies.

These threads are not helping you.

You need help for your anxiety.

FeelingJittery1 · 25/08/2021 16:44

@CraftyGin both- my family are going through enough and the last thing now is for me to willingly go and catch it

Also I’m mindful not to do something silly like pushing for early second dose only to find it didn’t serve any purpose

You won’t be given it early. There isn’t a clinical reason. Put that option out of your mind-it isn’t something to focus on because it won’t happen.

If you're in the UK, you won't be allowed it before 8 weeks, and most countries count double vaccine immunity at 14 days from the second dose. That means 8 weeks until you ha e full protection. If your dad is very unwell then you should go and quarantine rather than wait, use fresh FFP2 masks as needed.
