DS had Covid, should I say no to school LFT?

Hi - my son (and quite a few of his class!) tested positive for Covid in July just before the end of term. He is due to start secondary school soon and we had a letter describing the first few days induction "which will include a lateral flow test as per government guidelines". No consent form or anything although when schools first started testing i had one for his older brother.
I thought I had read somewhere that it was advisable not to test for 90 days following a positive case. Don't know whether to refuse test or not (assuming we get asked! Confused ) He is absolutely fine now but in my imagination he will randomly test positive and will be sent home to isolate in his first week!

Yes, you can get it more than once, and , yes, you can still get it once vaccinated!

@Orangesandlemons77

I don't really get this...it is possible to get it more than once. and after a case or vaccinated?

Both my DCs have had a dose of the vaccine now, does that mean we shouldn't have to do tests? Confused

You can get it after being vaccinated! You still have to keep testing. If you catch Covid, then you should not test for 90 days after your positive result as PCRs can pick up old infections.

We are in the same position, my ds tested positive at the start of the school holidays, school must have seen this scenario before.

I am in the same situation so will explain he's had it this summer so a LFT wouldn't be accurate.

I don't think that there were any repercussions for not getting a school test in Jan or March ? (Can't remember if they mass tested after Easter too?)

My DD just ended 10 days of isolation following definite symptoms (cough and shortness of breath, sore throat) but an inconclusive LFT. I didn’t get her a PCR because DS had just had confirmed Covid himself and she hadn’t been in contact with anyone to trace because we’d all been isolating ourselves for 10 days. I’ve been worried about her testing positive on an LFT once back at school but it sounds like I probably don’t need to worry. I’ll have her testing at home beforehand to make sure she’s negative.

Which is why it is a good idea to pcr with symptoms - it gives firm data and a record of infection.

Just a quick update for anyone still in this position. Received an email with consent to test form from DS new school to fill in. One of the questions on it asked if your child had received a positive Covid test within last 90 days, in which case the school would not test unless parents specifically requested it - so maybe this is in the guidance they are sent?
Anyway thought I'd mention it in case it is useful to anyone else Smile
