Are some people untestable?

Hello, I hope I can make myself clear. Covid is rife in my kids primary school (Scotland). Most of my DS's friends have tested positive. My DS has had all the symptoms now for 7 days - sore throat, fever, loss of sense of smell/taste. However, he is testing negative every time. Thats 4 lat flows and 2 PCR all negative- a mixture of my husband and I doing the tests, and the last PCR me getting the asistant at the unit to check I was doing it right. He is negative again and yet everyone he sits with, eats lunch with, plays with, sits on the bus with have the same symptoms and are all positive.
I don't know what to do next. By the rules, he should be back to school now.

Perhaps he really does just have a different virus?
I’ve currently got it and the reason I tested is because DD age 6 had a temperature so if anyone was to come back positive I thought her. She has consistently tested negative (both types of test) and we did another home test this morning poor DD as DH was very vigorous. Still negative.
It’s such a strange virus but since your son has gone back to school all the old favourites are probably circulating too!

There have been cases of people testing negative right up to when they are being intubated in ICU so yes, some people are the opposite of shedders.

My neighbour and his wife both tested negative in April 2020 despite having classic symptoms but were found to have antibodies a few months later.
In your circumstances I'd assume he's positive

@Porcupineintherough that's really interesting. I will keep him home this week and retest in a couple of days. Thanks for sharing this.

I know what you mean @Siameasy he could have anything but it just seems too weird. His wee friends all have it. Nobody else we know has a non covid bug at the moment Confused

Thanks for answering, I'm stressed by this because I want to care for him the best I can and also be socially responsible.

I know several people who have tested negative who got a positive eventually. One friend tested negative twice over 7 days with classic covid symptoms and feeling shocking only to test positive while feeling better.
One lived with 5 positive cases and tested negative. Symptomatic too. It was unlikely to have been another virus because they didn't go anywhere or mix outside (lockdown).
