Why the constant scaremongering?

FeelingJittery1 · 22/08/2021 10:04

I don’t read the daily mail- hate that paper for various reasons. Was in Twitter looking for a link about something and clicked on a link and ended up in the coronavirus rabbit hole-so many as my stories of unvaccinated individuals passing - single dose individuals passing- most around 30-40 age bracket-atleast this morning. I’m 40

I’m very scared of catching Covid- I’m convinced I’ll die. My dad who is 67 and went through a bi-pass three months back caught it and currently in icu on oxygen. He is in a red listed country which doesn’t help.
But obviously this has brought the whole issue very close to home and a lot if discussion around it.

I was very scared of the vaccine but after a HUGE battle had the 1st dose Pfizer 10 days back - and as per some studies the 1st dose is pretty useless against Delta? I might be incorrect in this.

This time I’m convicted I’m going to catch it and die - schools go back in the 6th and my second dose (I’m trying hard not to think too much about this) is early Oct

Why are the media scaremongering like this? I’ve seen similar articles in bbc too which I actively avoid-

We are at 320 cases per 100,000 which is above the national average.

How can I stay away from a 7 year old in the same house? I don’t go out and wfh- so my contact point will be mainly her and husband (double vaxxed)

I thought I was taking small steps forward but having a massive wobble today….

OP will get no comfort from this thread at all, I am not sure what they want but nothing anyone will say will change a thing. I’m surprised they’re allowed to continue posting.

gardeninggirl68 · 22/08/2021 11:03

They can only 'scaremonger' those willing to be

Notenoughcider · 22/08/2021 11:04

Because the media who are all owned by government members are being advised to push people to have the vaccine.

If stuff like this stresses you out, it's best to avoid it.

OliveTree75 · 22/08/2021 11:44

Well I am early 30s and it was like a super mild cold for me press vaccines. That won't make you feel better though because you are drawn to the negative. You are complaining about the media scaremongering but then repeating it on here

OliveTree75 · 22/08/2021 11:44

Pre vaccine*

OliveTree75 · 22/08/2021 11:46

I do hope your dad is okay though

illuyankas · 22/08/2021 12:45

If you can believe that children are safe even exposed to covid unvaccinated, then you should believe that the healthy 40 years old who is partially vaccinated should be safer than unvaccinated and you are unlikely to die.
Some things aren't scaremongering if they are reporting truth. Scaremongering is spreading misinformation and discouraging people to take safety measures.

If you can't logically process the information, you shouldn't be looking at them. You need to tackle your anxiety instead.

Hope your DF has speedy recovery.

Mrsfrumble · 22/08/2021 12:46

Is there anything you can do for your own health to make you feel more in control OP? Are you taking vitamin D supplements? (There we’re lots of reports about it being beneficial earlier on in the pandemic.) Are you a healthy weight? Would exercising more help? I’m looking forward to having time to go running again when my children are back in school. I know a healthy lifestyle doesn’t totally insure against becoming seriously ill, but it does make me feel less helpless.

FeelingJittery1 · 22/08/2021 12:55

I’ll try to answer a few questions:

No I’m not actively seeking Covid stories- I was on Twitter because I was sent a link re: a job and yes unnecessarily went down a rabbit hole

I have spoken to two GPs- both unhelpful. They wanted me to just get off the phone after the 10 mins so basically said don’t have the vaccine until you are calmer or I can give you Diazepam to get you through it.
Thankfully I didn’t agree to the diazepam as felt numbing my senses and getting through it would not help. Getting the jab was a huge challenge - now that’s done

The gap in England is 8 weeks which takes me to early Oct

I’m 40 so older that some one the early 30s who posted to reassure that they had a milder case

As of now I don’t have any underlying (known) conditions and of a sensible weight

Earlier I felt somewhat reassured that the schools etc had some safety measures- this time it’s all gone so feel very very worried. My daughter catches everything.

I take multi vitamins which had vitamin d but will look into upping it

My dad is still in the icu but on reduced oxygen than before. They are checking if he can breath on his own

I’m trying to keep away from SM as much as possible-

You should stay away from MN too. Or at least covid board

Getawaywithit · 22/08/2021 12:59

@FeelingJittery1

There should be some sort of a law against this kind of reporting.
Why? The very rare deaths of otherwise healthy people in their 30s and 40s shows precisely why the vaccine is important. The media needs to be telling us these stories so there is a corresponding impact on people who are waivering. People like yourself, clearly.
SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/08/2021 13:19

You say you’re worried about dying but you’re not really living.

What would you say your quality of life is currently?

I really feel for your husband and daughter.

Geamhradh · 22/08/2021 13:27

In fairness, the OP has a point.
I'm in Italy, and have news updates from a national site as pop ups. In the space of half an hour yesterday I saw "fall in cases on last week, no region will be going yellow this week, 65% of all over 12s fully vaccinated and 78% one dose vaccinated" followed by "cases will rise exponentially in September says scientist A. Sicily at risk of changing colour" and then "November threatens further restrictions including where necessary local lockdowns"

Rosehip10 · 22/08/2021 13:39

OP you have been told (including in your previous user names) that constant posting on the covid MN board will only heighten your extreme health anxiety. Yet you keep posting again and again.....

Miseryl · 22/08/2021 16:05

What do you want from these threads OP? What could anyone say to you that would make you feel better? And why would a prescription for Diazepam be worse than the way you are feeling now?

DismantledKing · 22/08/2021 16:08

@Notenoughcider

Because the media who are all owned by government members are being advised to push people to have the vaccine.

Well, that’s bollocks. Conspiracy theory cobblers.
Christmasfairy2020 · 22/08/2021 17:53

Both my kids are infected. Eldest 11 started 15th August. My youngest aged 6 is infected now. Eldest had no symptoms other than tiredness and sore eyes. Youngest keeps getting very high fevers and poorly. Me and dh both double vaxef are negative on pcr and daily lateral flows are negative. So the vaccines are effective

FeelingJittery1 · 22/08/2021 18:02

I’m not saying vaccines are ineffective?
@Christmasfairy2020

I’m asking HOW effective is a single dose??

OP posts:
vodkaredbullgirl · 22/08/2021 18:21

Just look it up.

FeelingJittery1 · 22/08/2021 18:33

@vodkaredbullgirl good thinking- it’s too confusing

Some suggest 50% against alpha but only 30% against delta

Some different figures

For example as per bbc Covid figures my area is increased from last week by 149

As per Zoe it’s decreased

OP posts:
MRex · 22/08/2021 18:40

@FeelingJittery1 - the lower value is protection against ANY symptoms, there is much higher protection against severe symptoms. As others have said, the issue is with your own anxiety. If your doctors aren't helpful then find a new GP. I've given you the link before when you had a different username, but this might be a useful resource for you: www.anxietyuk.org.uk/. Join a session or two tomorrow and see if it helps.

FeelingJittery1 · 22/08/2021 19:36

@MRex yes you did - thank you. I did join a few sessions, I’ll join this week too

I’m not enjoying what I’m going through

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 22/08/2021 19:59

@FeelingJittery1 You aren’t actually considering staying away from your daughter on her return to school, are you?

MRex · 22/08/2021 19:59

It's good you have it a try. Honestly if you can't relate to your GP then it may be best to find a new one, you need someone who you can trust to talk through your options of medication, CBT etc and come to a decision. Good luck!

PopcornMuncher · 22/08/2021 21:09

The media are not responsible for your anxiety; it sounds out of control. You need to get treatment for that.

The trouble is that a decision was taken to ramp up the fear in the general population by the authorities and now they don't know how to turn the fear tap off.

There is a fair bit of victim blaming going on here but this was exactly what the government and scientists set out to do. To frighten people Angry
