Close contact positive, T&T not involved: what to do?

Can anyone please help me work out the details of DP's self-isolation, and whether/when he should get a PCR test?

Monday afternoon (16th) DP sat for several hours next to someone at the pub. On Friday, DP went back to the same pub, and mutual friends told him that the chap had developed symptoms on Tuesday, had a positive PCR test, and is now very unwell.

DP doesn't have the app (no smartphone), and the pub is very lax - to put it mildly - about Test and Trace. I asked DP whether he hadn't been signing in every time he visited the pub, like I do when I go out. He hasn't. (Apparently there's no sign-in available.) So, obviously T&T wasn't going to contact DP.

I know there's no legal requirement for him to isolate at all, but that would be silly. So I wonder, in this scenario, what would T&T have told him if they had contacted him? I looked on the .gov website but it assumes that you'll have been contacted by T&T rather than learning in some other way that you've been in close contact with a Covid case, so it doesn't actually tell you what to do!

I figure he is definitely a close contact, and the other chap would have been infectious Monday, so DP should self-isolate until Thursday eve the 26th. DP did an LFT at home last night, which was negative. Should he do a PCR at this point or is it too late? When should he do it? If it's negative, should he continue to isolate anyway or what?

Thanks!

Is he double vaxxed? I don’t think you have to isolate now if so (assuming no symptoms himself).

Footballfrenzy2021 · 21/08/2021 12:07

If he’s double jabbed he doesn’t need to SI
My DS tested positive this week.
I’m doing daily LFTs

Saracen · 21/08/2021 12:18

No, he isn't yet double vaxxed.

He isn't legally obliged to SI, unless contacted by T&T.

Morally, however......he is at risk of developing Covid, and should stay away from people until he knows he's not caught it. Maybe do a PCR in the next few days.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 21/08/2021 12:27

He doesn't have to isolate anymore.

WednesburyPrinciple · 21/08/2021 12:41

Has to isolate unless he’s double vaccinated. Rules changed last week (double vaccinated adults and under 18s no longer have to self isolate if are close contacts of a positive case have no symptoms)

MRex · 21/08/2021 12:45

If he's not double vaccinated then he needs to isolate. He also could get a PCR test now as he's at the infectious point.

ShaneTheThird · 21/08/2021 12:45

You dont have to self isolate unless track and trace alerts you and if doubke vaxxed you dont have to isolate at all. I was with my work colleague all day the day they tested positive after work and i didnt have to isolate i just had to take a lateral flow test to work again the next day.

Saracen · 21/08/2021 12:50

Sorry, should have been clear - I'm not asking about the legal requirements. I know he doesn't have to self-isolate legally, but morally he should.

Should he get a PCR test also, and if so when?

@Saracen

No, he isn't yet double vaxxed.
To my understanding people who are not double vaxed have to isolate as per the old rules. It's only people that have been double jabbed that don't have to isolate. I would treat being told directly by the pub the same as being told by t&t (does it matter who told you s long as you know). He should also get a PCR. I would do that now
HalzTangz · 21/08/2021 14:34

@TheLovelinessOfDemons

He doesn't have to isolate anymore.
He does as he hasn't been double vaxxed
Jedstre · 21/08/2021 14:46

It’s not too late for a PCR test. At work (NHS) we’re advised to have PCR at day 5 after a contact (it’s in relation to staff who are double vaccinated and asymptomatic being able to return to work-but the point is a PCR at day 5 is obviously worthwhile). I would get PCR today.

claireymrsd · 21/08/2021 17:02

It's not just a case of he should isolate morally, he's not double vaccinated so he needs to isolate.

Againstmachine · 21/08/2021 17:11

On the pub side if in England they aren't being lax about signing in, it's no longer a requirement.

Saracen · 22/08/2021 05:05

Thanks everybody! He's now been for a PCR test and understands he needs to stay home for the ten days after contact regardless of the outcome.
