Oh, FFS....I've just had 2 very positive lateral flow tests, and I have my pcr booked this morning. I have a builder booked in to start a 2 week job on Monday, so I have no idea what will happen with that Confused. Has this happened to anyone else?

Oh what a nuisance. Hope you’re feeling ok?
Depends if he’s solely working outdoors. If he is, then just can’t let him in to use loo or do drinks etc. So give him the choice. My shielding neighbour hired a portaloo for her builder, which he he was entirely happy with.
If indoors, I can’t imagine for one minute he’d want to do the job. He may have other work booked that he can move about. I think it’s only fair to let him know right away, so he can make a plan if your PCR is positive.

PerditaMacleod · 21/08/2021 10:28

Thanks- yes it is indoor work. I'm wondering if he'll be OK to come if he doesn't see me at all, it if I go to stay with my parents or something. The guidance says that DH and DC don't need to isolate, which seems weird to me but there you go....we're all on the way to get tested now. Not feeling too bad so far, but it's so inconvenient Angry

Of course not, you want him to come and work in a house with people self isolating??? I would be fucking fuming if a client of mine didn't tell me they were self isolating. Why would you be happy to risk infecting him and his family /other clients?

stairgates · 21/08/2021 10:32

Ring him and ask, theres always the chance he was hoping to delay by a week anyway :)

OliveTree75 · 21/08/2021 10:39

Or you could just delay the work rather than exposing a builder and your parents....

Yes of course that would be preferable, but I don't know where that leaves me financially.

It will be his choice anyway, I will give him all the details and he can decide.

OP posts:
HappyGirl86 · 21/08/2021 11:26

I think give him a choice, but you'd definitely need to go and stay elsewhere. Does that put your parents at risk though then?
What a pain for you. Did you have symptoms?

Siameasy · 21/08/2021 11:28

Tell him and let him decide.

Popfan · 21/08/2021 11:39

How can you stay with your parents??? Won't you be putting them at risk?

andjsk · 21/08/2021 11:44

Footballfrenzy2021 · 21/08/2021 11:45

My son tested positive this week .
I’m double jabbed & have been doing LFT everyday.
I contacted all my clients as I would be working indoors to give them the option. 50% cancelled
It’s difficult because the ‘rules’ changed on Monday but I didn’t feel comfortable not telling them.
Obviously a financial hit for me but nothing I can do about that.

TheNarwhalBalloon · 21/08/2021 11:46

I'm pretty sure you can't go and stay elsewhere even if your parents were amenable (why would you put them at risk?). If you have a positive PCR you can't leave the house.

When I tested positive we had bathroom fitters in doing our en suite. I didn't know I had it initially, so they'd been in the house for a couple of days unknowingly. To be fair I didn't really see them as was always in a different room, and it was still at a time when they (and we) were wearing masks for any conversations - though dh did most of those as I was unwell. I was diagnosed in hospital so out of the house for 3 days, though dh and Dd were having to SI too. I returned when they had one more day to go.

We told them all this before, during and after. We expected them to have to cancel/delay the work. They chose to come in and finish the work.

i just spent all day in the spare room, with the door closed. Dh and Dd who were SI also kept out of their way - Dd in her bedroom, dh in the study. They all wore masks and we kept every window open all day.

They claimed they'd already had covid, as had their whole family, and they'd rather just get the job finished as they were fully booked.
We are having same fitters round later this year for the other bathroom. Fitter said he was perfectly fine afterwards and he and his family didn't get covid again.

I'm quite sure they shouldn't have been there but I was too poorly at the time to push it any further. Dh said the fitter was really very insistent he just get the job done.

LindaEllen · 21/08/2021 12:23

The only thing to do here is to call him, and have the work delayed. You have tested positive and I would assume your PCR will confirm this.

The rules still state that those testing positive must isolate. This does not stretch to having people in your home who don't live there.

PerditaMacleod · 21/08/2021 12:29

I called him and fortunately, he's very flexible over the next few weeks and can move things around. So that's a big relief Smile

Yes, it's really difficult! Although the rules say that DH and DC don't need to isolate, we have cancelled all our plans as it wouldn't feel right to see anyone.

That’s good news OP. My Dp is a builder and has rejigged work around in order to avoid positive cases. Hope you’re ok.

PerditaMacleod · 22/08/2021 15:25

Thank you @Passthecake30. My PCR was positive, unsurprisingly. DH and DCs negative. Fortunately it seems to be quite mild.

I'd ring and ask. I was talking to our heating engineer last year and he said he was happy to work in a house with a positive case, but had certain measures he'd ask to be put in place.
