Contact with a positive LFT, self isolate?

Last week and then Monday to Wednesday this week I was on a training course with a person who got a positive LFT on Thursday morning.

They felt rough and went home at lunchtime Wednesday but I'd spent the morning sat next to them and chatting. They said in our group chat that they got a pcr test after leaving Wednesday just in case, but I've been self isolating since they messaged about their positive LFT on Thursday morning. They've not said about a positive pcr so I'm assuming that they've not had it back yet or they're feeling so rotten that they haven't been able to update, I'm assuming I should continue to self isolate for 10 days because of the LFT being positive despite not hearing back about a pcr yet. Am I right?

Are you double vaccinated? If you are then, no, new guidance is that you don’t have to isolate. Otherwise, if you haven’t been contacted by Track and Trace then you also don’t need to isolate, you only need to if you have been contacted.

If you are double jabbed then no you don’t need to self isolate, even if their PCR is positive
Have you done a LFT?

QueenOfCatan · 21/08/2021 10:09

Sorry forgot to say no I am not double vaccinated yet!

I have done a LFT and am doing them daily just to catch it early if I do get it

My understanding is that you don’t legally need to isolate unless you’re contacted by test and trace.
But since you know that it’s probably the real thing, I think it’s responsible of you to keep isolating for now. Might be worth chasing up your colleague later today if they haven’t posted an update. Then you know where you stand and the guidance for a confirmed contact is slightly more straightforward.

Frazzled2207 · 21/08/2021 10:16

Legally you don’t have to do anything until contacted by T&T. It is possible they haven’t had a result yet.
In your shoes I’d send them a “hope you’re ok” Text and ask about the pcr!

QueenOfCatan · 21/08/2021 11:23

Yeah, I'm going to wait until later today and then message them, it seems like the responsible thing to do to isolate though!

@QueenOfCatan

I hope you are ok and don't end up catching covid!

I am curious to know if you develop symptoms or positive lateral flow test as I too was in close proximity, indoors to a positive case all day Wednesday. She got a positive test Friday, her husband on Thursday. I Shared a car and ate lunch together etc. I am not double jabbed, I'm pregnant and doing daily lateral flows. Really hoping I don't develop symptoms.

Apparently if you've been close to someone with covid you can get a pcr test and I think if that's negative you can stop isolating...

I've got a pcr test booked for tomorrow.

Kindleandacuppa · 22/08/2021 00:19

I would book in for a PCR test, the lateral flows aren't reliable, my daughter tested negative on a LF Monday 1.30pm the positive 10:30pm that evening- confirmed positive by PCR on Tuesday. My OH and other child then developed symptoms specifically headache and sore legs- Tuesday evening but both negative LF then on wednesday evening both tested positive (at that stage they had temperatures and all other symptoms). I've now got the beginning of their symptoms - sore eyes, leg pain & headache and still testing negative on lateralflow but I suspect I will test positive tomorrow at some stage. If u don't hear back from your colleague or track & trace I would book a PCR

I think that's only if you have been double jabbed or are under 18, as a close contact I still have to isolate for 10 days despite a negative PCR as I've only had 1 jab Smile

missturnbullx · 22/08/2021 04:47

@Kindleandacuppa thank you for this information. I'm kind of glad because even if I get a negative PCR I'd still feel a lot more comfortable isolating from others to protect them just in case!

lannistunut · 22/08/2021 05:28

Yes I'm going to isolate if I am a contact too, it's a bad rule change given the vaccines don't reduce transmission that much.

Assume the govt drafted the rules pre-Delta and weren't willing to adapt. Because they are useless.
