Regretting my vaccination choice :(

Synctfsi · 20/08/2021 14:12

I was vaccinated with AZ for my first dose.

I have a history of blood clots as did both my mother & father.

I’m under 40 and it was decided by my GP
that I would receive Pfizer for my second dose.

I went ahead and had Pfizer and thought nothing more about it.

That was until last week when it was announced that the UK didn’t recognise mixed vaccines as fully vaccinated (for the purpose of entry to the UK)

Since then I’ve felt really uneasy about having received two different doses.

I’ve heard from several other people that they had requested Pfizer as a second dose following AZ but were refused.
They’d even asked their CCG and were still refused.

I didn’t need to do that, my DR approved it right away.

I didn’t even research the effects, I was just happy to accept since I work in a job that puts me higher risk of infection (social worker and public facing) and I wanted to be protected.

I know nothing can be done now, it is what it is, but I’m really starting to regret it.

I don’t even know the effects this will have on my health, what kind of protection I have against Covid or how long it will last.

I can’t help but feel really shitty about my vaccines.

I can't work out what the problem is here

PurpleDaisies · 20/08/2021 14:15

Vaccinating with two different vaccines is likely to give you better immunity. It’s not a new technique. It’s been used against other diseases for a long time. There are already studies showing good immunity levels with different covid vaccines as first and second doses.

You should contact your mp to put pressure on the government to change the definition of “fully vaccinated”. People in your position should not be disadvantaged.

DGFB · 20/08/2021 14:16

There is no issue, a trial is currently ongoing and due to report really soon that is likely to say getting another shot of a different vaccine is good for the immune system.
As for travel, can your GP write you a letter saying you had two different doses for medical reasons? Also, do you live abroad and were you vaccinated abroad? Otherwise, that issue you mention doesn’t apply to you?

The official definition of “fully vaccinated” pig out by the government says you need to have had two of the same vaccine (plus 14 days) to be counted as fully vaccinated.

I live and were vaccinated in England.

If you’d had two AZ you’d have been worried about blood clots. If you’d only had one, you’d have been worried about lack of protection.

So would you go back now and make a different decision about having the second as Pfizer not AZ?

Smartiepants79 · 20/08/2021 14:19

Have you tried to download your nhs COVID passport thing. There was a thread on here last week about similar situation and I’m fairly sure there turned out not to be an issue.

@OpheliasCrayon

I’m not technically classed as fully vaccinated since I’ve had two different vaccines.

I don’t know if this affects wether I need to isolate if I’m in contact with a positive case.

I don’t know if it’s even safe long term or what kind of protection I have.

Yes I have a Covid passport thing Grin

Why would it be unsafe?

I think given this is now your third thread on exactly this issue, there might be health anxiety at play. Have you spoken to your GP about your worries?

@noblegiraffe

You’re probably right. I would’ve worried either way.

If I could go back I would’ve waited and got vaccinated with age group and got Pfizer for both doses!!!

I guess lack of safety data?!

I don’t have health anxiety. I’m anxious about the vaccines, which I think in my case is perfectly reasonable.

I mean this in a nice way, but you need to get a grip. In May/June you were stressing about getting pfzier for your second dose, last week you were worrying about travel, now you are concerned about wanning immunity. There will always be something to worry about.

WoMandalorian · 20/08/2021 14:26

They are doing booster jabs for Pfizer in the autumn and winter so surely you could talk to your doctor about the problem and if there were spares or a missed appointment you could take one?

@traumatisednoodle

I have never stressed about getting Pfizer for my second dose. I haven’t said I have! 🤷🏻‍♀️

It must be weeks since you had your second vaccine. Worrying now really seems excessive.

I had my second vaccine at the end of May.

Literally haven’t given it another thought until this new rule from the government.

Maybe you should go back and read your other thread. The links people posted there seemed to reassure you that this wasn’t a problem. I’m not sure what else you think people will be able to say that they haven’t already said.

traumatisednoodle · 20/08/2021 14:33

You were running around trying to "switch" to the pfzier pathway having recieved a AZ first dose.

BeauxRingarde · 20/08/2021 14:35

I guess lack of safety data?

There is no lack of safety data, this is an ant-vax lie. There has never been more data available on any vaccine in the history of medicine.

Frazzled2207 · 20/08/2021 14:36

If your covid app thing works it’s fine

The only allowed in if you have two of the same vaccine thing applies to foreign residents only.

You didn’t get a blood clot so not sure why you’re worried about that.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 20/08/2021 14:36

OP with kindness, this is your third thread regarding your vaccinations. All the advice and comments you had still stand, perhaps speak with your GP about your choice, maybe hearing from them will put your mind at rest. It does sound like health anxiety, coming from someone who has health anxiety.

nordica · 20/08/2021 14:44

I wouldn't worry, mixing vaccines have been done really widely elsewhere in Europe, Canada and I think to some extent the US, too. Angela Merkel in Germany had AZ as her first jab and Moderna as her second. If anything, you are likely to get better protection from having two different vaccines.

If you have a covid pass from the app then it shouldn't be an issue as the system recognises you've had two doses.

frozendaisy · 20/08/2021 14:49

All you can do is try and get a permission to enter UK via your GP letter if possible. And wait for next round of vaccines and have two doses the same whichever ones you decide to worry less over.

The decisions already made are done.

You will have immunity which is surely the most important thing. You haven't had any clots. Ok you might not get the vaccine passport right now but surely being vaccinated with fatal side effects is way more important for you.

frozendaisy · 20/08/2021 14:50

Without fatal side effects I mean. Apologies
