DS 11 started with an upset tummy on Sunday. By late afternoon he was having bouts of dihorrea and vomited once. Took his temp and it was high. We had an old PCR test in the house so tested him and posted off. That result was negative.

He had covid in Dec 2020 (positive PCR) and the pattern of temperature was very similar (although he had a big rash then no gastro signs). I thought with a tummy bug the fever doesn't last that long esp in a Kid his age. Did an LFT on him today (yes I know you are not supposed to with symptoms but he was supposed be starting high school on Mon and they said negative pcr just come in, but I'm not so sure).

Stupidly looked at it after 5 minutes and then forgot. Came back about 50 mins later to bin it, and there's the faintest faintest line, like I have to be in daylight and squint to see it.

I've ordered another PCR.

Anyone any ideas, or had this?? Particularly LFTs read after the time limit??

Thanks xx

He still has a temperature and nausea now.

I think your plan of another PCR is a good one, just to be safe but I have had this happen with a LFT that was read after the 30 minutes for DS, very, very faint line that was never repeated. DS was symptomless though so I was happier to accept the repeat negative.

Definitely get another pcr. A walk/drive in will be quicker then postal.

Some don't test positive on a pcr for a few days but then do. It's really odd how it wall works.

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't drive. I've never wanted to use the walk in ones because (rightly or wrongly) I don't want me or the DC to be near anyone with symptoms if we can help it - even if we also had symptoms!! - in case it's not covid. I ordered another home test pcr today and will get it tomorrow and results thurs.

We are isolating anyway. Not been anywhere since he got ill. Called the school on Monday (first day of high school!!), and DD has and will also be isolating.

Really hoping it's not.

You would have the results tomorrow if you'd gone to a walk in, instead of dragging it our for days with a postal test, but suit yourself!

If you are in Scotland the rest of you no longer need to isolate I think.

Frazzled2207 · 17/08/2021 21:05

in your shoes I'd have done another LFT and seen what it said after 30 minutes and if negative not taken further action.

worriedaboutcovid · 17/08/2021 21:20

Yes in Scotland.

I'm due in college campus on Friday and DD was supposed to start back at school tomorrow. I think we will isolate, even if technically we don't need to isolate. Not losing any wages thankfully cause I work part time from home.

I am going to do another LFT tonight or in morning.

If he didn't still have a temperature 48 hours after the D+V and temperature began, I probably wouldn't be questioning as much.

When he had covid before, he had a very weird pronounced rash over most of his body, headaches, lethargic, his temperature was sky high even with paracetamol a few hours after symptoms started, and then the temperature lowered and was 38-38.3 for nearly two weeks and he was tired. I've never known a virus to cause a temp so long.

Do D+V viruses cause a temp even 48 hours after the last episode of D+V does anyone know??

We had this last week with 4 yo DS. dH tested positive a couple of weeks ago and a few days after testing us all with PCRs I did a lateral flow,. forgot to bin it too and hours later there was a faint line.

PCR was negative…

poorbuthappy · 18/08/2021 16:16

We all tested on Sunday. 2 out of 5 positives.
1 of the negatives has had some symptoms starting yesterday and a very faint positive on LFT this morning so she's done another PCR this morning.
