I guess I may now come down with it…?

I spent two hours (outdoors) with someone, sat very closely and even held their mobile phone. They’re now unwell with Covid. We’re both double jabbed. I’m guessing I am likely to come down with it. I really hope I’m not unwell as my DD struggles if I’m poorly (she has special needs). Her Dad is around but it’s not easy.
Will do a PCR - negative LFT today

You just just don't know. I am a teacher and have been in very close contact a few times and didn't get it. Other people have got it and don't know where from. You just can't tell. Fingers crossed for you

namechangeandNC · 16/08/2021 07:10

There are a lot of reports that you see about people getting unwell despite the vaccine - but that's because people know that they had 2x vax and then got covid. It happens, unfortunately, no vaccine is fool proof.

However - think of all the huge number of people who had both vaccines and then didn't catch covid off someone - they can't comment on the fact they didn't get it as they obviously had no idea.

So it's definitely not a given that you will. Hopefully you dont.

CrumbleLady · 16/08/2021 07:16

Not necessarily. Yes, it’s a risk but you were outdoors which is a big plus.
I sat within 2m (indoors) of someone for a few hours who tested positive the next day and I didn’t catch it.
They’d had one jab, I’d had two.

There’s loads of anecdotal evidence like that but as @Cric says it’s very much circumstantial.

Hope you stay well

WellJuhnelle · 16/08/2021 07:16

Not necessarily. I had it about 2 months ago and neither my husband nor my young children caught it despite us being in the same house. I hope you stay well Flowers

Summersdreaming · 16/08/2021 07:22

Not necessarily, me and dp spent an hour in a car with 2 people, then had a meal indoors with 6 others the day before dp got symptoms and none of the 8 got it. I tested positive the day after so probably just missed being infectious that day.

flightofthewilderbeast · 16/08/2021 07:24

My dps daughter tested positive, he is double vacced and didn't distance at all- gave cuddles etc and he didn't catch it. His son didn't get close but was in same room and lived in same house, not vaccinated as too young, and he didn't get it. There's no telling really.

LawnFever · 16/08/2021 07:24

You might be fine, DH had it and I never caught it despite being in the same house, get a test and keep an eye on symptoms but you could well be absolutely fine.

FizzyPink · 16/08/2021 07:25

A friends daughter (double jabbed) had it a few weeks ago. There are 5 of them in the house, 2 adults both double jabbed and then 2 non-jabbed teenagers. All of them tested negative throughout their 10 days isolation.

Tanfastic · 16/08/2021 07:33

I had a situation in similar circumstances but indoors and never caught it.

notasillysausage · 16/08/2021 07:40

You really don’t know. I spent a stressful 10 days isolating after having coffee with a friend who tested positive the next morning. We were sat indoors for 1.5 hours, no masks, poor social distancing Blush and only one jab at the time - didn’t catch it.

AtticusMcPlatypus · 16/08/2021 07:41

Not necessarily. A friends daughter caught it a couple of weeks ago and neither parent caught it. All were double vaxxed, including the daughter.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/08/2021 07:42

Possibly. I currently have it, caught it off a work colleague and we were socially distanced as much as possible. But my own DS who I definitely don't social distance from has tested negative, as has my mum who I saw last week and hugged.

countrygirl99 · 16/08/2021 07:43

Not necessarily. My friends husband got it and neither she nor their children got it. 3 months later 1 of the children got it and again, no one else in the house did. Soina house hold of 5, 2 have had t and different times and the other 3 haven't been ill at all.

HungryHippo11 · 16/08/2021 07:48

Not necessarily, especially if double vaccinated. My daughters both had it and I didn't catch it from them. And they were literally coughing in my face all week.

littlepeas · 16/08/2021 08:07

My dh was near someone last week in very similar circumstances and so far so good! Dh possibly had it in the early days (no tests available at that point) and if what he has was covid I didn’t catch it, despite sharing a bed with him, etc.

LynetteScavo · 16/08/2021 09:02

You won't necessarily get it. I cleared up DSs sick and didn't catch it (I'm fully vaccinated) Unvaccinated DD managed not to catch it living in the same house.

Blossom4538 · 16/08/2021 11:05

Thanks all! Fingers crossed.
I’ve ordered a home test.

Not a given at all.
A friend is a hospital doctor who has worked with Covid patients throughout.
Her daughter brought Covid home from school. She looked after her. None of the rest of the family (two brothers as well as husband) caught it.
About four months later, her husband (working from home, only been out o one supermarket once in preceding 10 days) caught it. Again, no one else in the house got it from him (all tested so no asymptomatic children, for example).

Lineeyesoverhere · 17/08/2021 18:34

My DH is on the last couple of days of isolating due to a positive test and (touch wood) none of us have come down with it. Living in same house but separate rooms, windows and doors open. So you might be lucky!

nanbread · 17/08/2021 18:40

I was in v v similar circumstances after 1 jab and didn't get it. You just don't know!
