I have had two COVID vaccines today

I had my second vaccine today but unfortunately some of the vaccine seeped out , the vaccinator discussed it with the band 6 who advised her to give me a second one although did asked me if I wanted to come back in a weeks time , I was really unsure but went ahead and had a second vaccine in the same arm. Apparently is better to have a second dose rather than be under dosed and it does not matter having a double dose. Does anyone know if that is correct , my friend has told me maybe it was the technique of the vaccinator and she gave it to fast .

Any advice please

The vaccine seeped out? Of your arm?

Boombadoom · 14/08/2021 22:15

You’ve had medical advice whilst there Flowers

TheGenealogist · 14/08/2021 22:15

the vaccinator discussed it with the band 6 who advised her to give me a second one

So the person in charge at the centre advised the appropriate course of action. I'm not sure what you are expecting from non-medically qualified people who were not there at the time and don't have any of the facts.

waltty · 14/08/2021 22:15

Out of the vaccination site

Advice about what?

XenoBitch · 14/08/2021 22:16

You had advice whilst you were there. Trying to get more, or a different opinion will just feed any anxiety you have about it.
It is done and dusted now.

waltty · 14/08/2021 22:17

From reading previous posts there are some experts on on here who have given good advice , I have google myself and can find no information

With respect, as others are saying, you've had medical advice from a healthcare professional. I would take that. These people are very knowledgeable and I would trust their professional judgement.

Spaghettipie1 · 14/08/2021 22:27

I think there were a few people (I think in Germany?) Who were vaccinated wrongly at the start of the program and given a massive dose of the vaccine (I think 3 or 4 times the dose) and I'm pretty sure there were no ill effects. I'd rather have a bit too much than not enough I guess. There won't be much evidence with such a new vaccine. You can always Google the Green Book Covid 19 as that is a source of info on vaccines.

Frugblie · 14/08/2021 22:31

Not with the covid vaccine, but yes I've had this before. For some reason a lot of the first ran down by arm so the nurse administering it spoke with one of the doctors and I chose to just have it straight away. The person doing the jab will have an indication of how much went down your arm, and they will I expect have guidance/knowledge to advise what what did. I'm sure it'll be fine.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 14/08/2021 22:33

Could you be a little clearer on what you need advice about?

It's done now, you can't change anything.

waltty · 14/08/2021 22:36

Thank you for the advice , on reflection my question should have been is that normal practice for a vaccinator of any vaccine to give a double vaccine if some of the drug seeped out of the vaccination site rather than being COVID related , presumed there would be experienced vaccinators on here , however many thanks to every one who has responded.

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 14/08/2021 22:42

Whatever the answer you can't squeeze it out now so put it out of your mind.

Yes, there's usually a very rough guide of it it seems half has leaked then its usually fine to do again. If anything the vaccinatiors will be very risk adverse, so will have erred on the side of caution.
EmL98 · 14/08/2021 23:02

@waltty I had my first Pfizer vaccine in June and had the same happen to me. I'm not great with needles so the nurse tried to do it quickly.

While she gave me the vaccine the needle fell off the end and onto the floor, so part of the vaccine went in my arm and the rest sprayed all over meConfused.

I was given another jab as they didn't know how much I actually had. I have been absolutely fine so don't panic.

JoborPlay · 14/08/2021 23:12

Depends on the vaccine, some you're better off under dosed, or to have another dose in a set time frame and others to be overdosed. Covid (all currently available I believe) are fine to overdosed. It's set by the manufacturer prior to release based on the evidence at trials.

bluejelly · 14/08/2021 23:20

I'm sure you will be fine. Try not to worry Flowers

Tryingtryingandtrying · 14/08/2021 23:23

You cant change it, so agree with the above. No point worrying. You must have consented to second vaccine so thought it made sense at the time?

MemoryGame · 15/08/2021 00:22

I think in some of the trials the doses were up to 10x (or more?) what ended up in the final vaccine. I went to bed halfway through a programme about the trials, but even the people given massive doses were fine and talking about how proud they were to have taken part while I was still awake.

rainbowunicorn · 15/08/2021 10:43

@waltty why on earth would you believe anyone on here that said they were an expert in anything?. I could sit here now and tell you I am a senior nurse with many thousands of vaccines under my belt. I could also tell you I am CEO of a large companty, a vet, a polititian or the bloody queen. Do you think I am actually one of those things?

It is utterly bizarre that people take at face value what is said on here.
You had the correct advice given to you at the time by an actual medical professional.
If one of the so called experts on here came along and said that was wrong would you believe them over the actual trained medical professional? If so why would that be?
It is the same as the people that come on here to get the latest rules and updates rather than go to the official sources such as NHS or government website. They come on, ask a question and get 50 replies, usually only one or two of which are correct.

True, but in what way would the advice of someone anonymous on mumsnet hold more credence?

As I have previously said thank you to everyone one who has replied, some more useful then others 😜

I know that it is 100% ok to have the second dose after a partial first dose.
