Vaccine deadlines in the workplace

Apologies if this has already been done, but in the last week both a relative and a friend's workplaces have reminded staff that they are required to have at least their first vaccine dose by the end of September, otherwise they will lose their jobs.

They both work within elderly care settings, but I'm curious as to whether other work places are stipulating a deadline. Has anyone else had experience of this?

It’s sounds very reasonable for anyone working in such a setting. I believe it will be similar in healthcare, hospital staff etc.

I don’t imagine it will ever be mandatory in many other sectors

Mine haven’t given a deadline but without vaccines we’ll have to:

  • Pay for our own tests from October (as they will stop being free then)
  • Be excluded from international travel which accounts for a third of our working schedule, so ultimately you’ll be politely invited to leave the job.

It was in the news a while ago that this would be the law for the care sector, but not yet for hospitals, which is bonkers
I don’t think any other sectors will insist on it. Individual employers might try but this would be against the law I think

@sandytoes91

Tell them to get a vaccine.
What’s the issue?

If not contraindicated there are only two reasons

Rank selfishness and stupidity

Justa47 · 14/08/2021 19:37

@sandytoes91

I mean people who haven’t at least had one help keeping the situation as it is.

Just a fact. They might not like to hear it but it’s true. And everyone else is sick of these people. Even if it don’t say it.

sandytoes91 · 14/08/2021 19:58

No issue, both are vaccinated, I was just curious as to whether any other sectors were following suit. Obviously nightclubs will also only be accessible to those who have had 2 doses

It is the law for care homes, not the employer's decision.
From November, double vaccination is the law, so first vaccination needs to be done in September.
Medical exemption is allowed, but requires a letter from GP, so won't just be due to believing that you know more than the experts at the MHRA or JCVI and therefore need access to all the medical data to make your own expert assessment Hmm (yes, you are definitely going to be reading that kind of thing yourself rather than listening to your antivax cousin/friend/internet poster with handy images from the Disinfomation Dozen).

Mickarooni · 15/08/2021 14:46

It’s also law for any professionals visiting care homes which I had no actually realised Blush although I’m vaccinated.

@sandytoes91

No company wants to be the first due to the test case, even in the USA apple and google have been very legal I. Their wording of this requirement.

Look up Houston memeorial hospital for a more forthright view.
