3rd jab if long gap between 1 and 2?

I’ve just been for my 2nd covid jab (AZ). I had the first at the end of March, so the gap has been about 20weeks rather than 12 as was initially proposed as ideal. There are a variety of reasons for the delay- none of them antivax or concern about vax safety but that’s another thread!.

As I was leaving the supervising pharmacist said “you know with such a long gap you should ask for your first AZ jab to be wiped from the record and start the course again”.

Is this, does anyone know, right or even possible? I know boosters will be starting soon, but all signs suggest they are likely to be mix and match to maximise immune response so wouldn’t necessarily help in this situation

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn’t listen to it. My first jab was the 13th February my 2nd was July 1st. Not had any issues. You shouldn’t need a 3rd vaccine.

No, that’s not right. That is terrible that you’ve been told that.

I am a covid vaccinator and have never been given this information to pass on to a patient. It's complete rubbish

The dose gaps in the AZ trials were as long as 40 weeks in some cases and the longest gaps gave the best protection.

You'll be better protected based on the studies for AZ, I wouldn't give it another thought, but would still get boosters if offered because that will also help. It's a very irresponsible thing for them to say, planting unnecessary doubt on your mind. You could report them to the CCG if you feel aggrieved about it.

Thanks all- I was a bit Hmm but you know, you just try and assume don’t you, with medical professionals, that they’re giving the right advice...

Anyway I read (the abstract and findings Grin) of the peer reviewed study from Oxford re: prolonged gap between doses to 45 weeks and must agree he was talking out of his arse.

Seems I’ve accidentally ended up in the “ideal” vax scenario so hurrah etc

No chance just had 2nd with first end of March, feel completely blackmailed into having the second one to be able to travel, not isolate, etc, didn’t want it regretted the first one.
