dd tested positive

dd (6) tested positive with lft yesterday. Just want to know what should I be expecting now. We are all self isolating. dd felt tired on Thursday and had a slightly higher temperature (37.3) yesterday. Now with mild flu symptom and a tummy ache, she is still energetic, eating and drinking well. Is it safe to assume she is not going to get worse this?

Dh and I are both double jabbed and tested negative for now. Anything we could do to reduce the chance of catching it?

Have you checked with a PCR?

crisplist · 14/08/2021 09:53

Not yet. I'm planning to get a pcr for me and dh.

You need to get a PCR test for your dd.

Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2021 10:02

Your PCRs may come clear at first mind. There is little you can do as she is so young. Just lots of handwashing and hope, really. It's probably too late to avoid it if her symptoms are showing. Look after yourselves!

One of our dc was positive, none of the other people living here tested positive. Apart from not hugging goodnight we didn't change our behaviour ! Didn't want dc to feel more shitty by keeping them in their room etc.

CordeliasPencil · 14/08/2021 10:06

@MoirasWigStand

You need to get a PCR test for your dd.
Why? They're isolating.
ineedaholidaynow · 14/08/2021 10:11

For test and trace purposes you should get PCR for DD.

In theory after Monday the parents won’t need to isolate if DD is the only one positive

starbrightstarlight8888 · 14/08/2021 10:14

Your dd needs a pcr test.
Have you told everyone she's been in contact with?

starbrightstarlight8888 · 14/08/2021 10:15

If you're isolating before Monday you still need to carry on isolating

@starbrightstarlight8888 , I thought that too but the health woman on BBC news this morning said otherwise. So I'm planning on checking that one!

croon979 · 14/08/2021 10:20

My 6 year old tested postive alongside me yesterday. he has temperature and runny nose but is energetic and in good spirits (unlike me). I hope he does not worsen. He was very tired the day before we got the PCR test (which I didn’t think much of at the time as he had been in a summer holiday club and always comes back exhausted from those).

croon979 · 14/08/2021 10:22

I should have said that my husband is testing negative using LFTs twice daily. He is just upping his vitamins and eating healthily and trying to keep his distance. In some respects it is helpful both I and DS have it as we can snuggle up together

ShowOfHands · 14/08/2021 10:23

Both of mine were fine at first. Sadly, both also got much worse on day 5/6. DS was very unwell days 6-10 and dd was pretty unwell but only days 5-8.

Hopefully, yours will sail through it!

MRex · 14/08/2021 10:23

You can leave, but be careful.

The following groups of people identified as close contacts will no longer be required to self-isolate. If their self-isolation period began before 16 August and was due to end after 16 August, they will be able to leave self-isolation on 16 August:
double-vaccinated adults: those who received their final dose of an MHRA-approved vaccine in the UK vaccination programme at least 14 days prior to contact with a positive case

Also (from earlier in the page):
As double-jabbed people identified as close contacts are still at risk of being infected, people are advised to consider other precautions such as wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces, and limit contact with other people, especially with anyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable. They will not be required to self-isolate while they wait for the results of the PCR test.

yes, gov has quietly changed this . There is a lack of awareness.

Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2021 10:26

It suddenly struck me yesterday MRex how unworkable that second bit will be in schools... Twas ever thus.

Mindymomo · 14/08/2021 10:26

Yes, firstly you all need to get PCR tests done to confirm if it’s positive and you all isolate now. After Monday, you parents don’t have to isolate as you are double jabbed for more than 2 weeks, but obviously your daughter will if it comes back positive. There’s not a lot you can do about isolating from a young child that needs looking after, but keeping windows open and distancing as much as you can will help. Keep DD taking lots of drinks, to help with dehydration as well as regular calpol.

Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2021 10:27

Why? They're isolating.

For accurate figures for NHS/PHE and for her DD's medical records.

Test and trace said twice last week that if we were isolating before Mondy we had to carry on. Has guidance changed in the last few days? Why is nothing ever clear?

ineedaholidaynow · 14/08/2021 10:31

Because this is Boris @starbrightstarlight8888

crisplist · 14/08/2021 10:34

ShowOfHands sorry to hear your dc were unwell. Hope they are fully recovered now.

I think you will need a risk assessment if there's any vulnerable children in the class, it suggests that's needed in this page so presumably that will follow through when Dept Education write their advice (on 1st Sept). Unclear what happens for a CEV teacher, I can't think of how they can work safely without permanently needing mask and additional ventilation (own air filtration unit?).
Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2021 10:46

Well, yes. They don't....

crisplist · 14/08/2021 10:53

Thanks for the replies. We have no plan to stop self isolation on Monday. We can work from home anyway. And we are not in contact with anyone in the last week really. I guess she picked it up from a playground.
I don't want to test dd again because it's quite difficult. But I'll probably get one for her.

crisplist · 14/08/2021 11:03

croon979 It's impossible for me to keep any distanc with dd. dh moved to the spare room, just trying to keep at least one healthy adult in the house. Thanks for reminding me the vitamins.

Hope you and your dc get well soonFlowers
