New self isolation rules from next week

Ok so my understanding is that from next monday those that are double jabbed or under 18 don't have to self isolate if close contact with someone who has covid .
Does that include if it is someone in your household ? As i mean you will have potential contact everyday as we don't all have multiple bathrooms , large houses etc
And for those that are 18 and only had chance to have one jab they will still have to isolate despite not being there fault they only have had one jab so far

You're correct. The legislation does not distinguish between household or other close contacts. However you must be 14 days post second jab before you can stop isolating.

GintyMcGinty · 12/08/2021 13:30

That's correct fir England.

In Scotland double jabbed and under 18s can be released from isolation after a negative PCR.
One jag or no jag and you still have to isolate.

Wales and NI may be different again.

worriedatthemoment · 12/08/2021 15:19

Thank you all , so scotland you have to have pcr but england advisory
But then when would be best to have pcr as if in household surely you could catch it any 10 days that technically we are told its transmissible

My ds1 who has just turned 18 would have to isolate then as he only had one jab as only eligible 2 weeks ago , yet my 16 year old unjabbed will be able to go out
Myself and dh both double jabbed

If you work, I'd check with them though. My place of work is saying it's at their discretion in case they want you to isolate.

Imfedupwithallofthis · 12/08/2021 15:39

Most 18 year olds have had the chance to be double vaccinated by now. Those who haven't through no fault of their own, or due to hesitancy, will just have to sit it out.

In your son's case, only for about 4 weeks, if he gets his second jab promptly.

He is no worse off than before 16 August, and because he has had one vaccine, is better off in other ways.

There has to be a cut off at sometime.

Zandathepanda · 12/08/2021 15:48

Most 18 year olds haven’t had the chance to be double vaccinated.

ZaZathecat · 12/08/2021 15:51

Agree with Zanda. My young adults booked the moment vaccination became available to them and they still have 2 weeks+ to wait for second jab.

StepGarlic · 12/08/2021 15:59

Where are the new legislation? Is Bojo doing an announcement. I need it spelt out simply haven't got time to go reading all the legal document like last time.

worriedatthemoment · 12/08/2021 16:32

My 18 year old was 18 last week and in our area they wouldn't give until 18 , then government announced would give if few months away so he had a week before his 18th , so as soon aa he could , 2nd jab not due until end of sept so mid october before he can not isolate , yet his 16 year old brother can go out etc, maybe cut off should be 18.5 to give them
Actual time to have a jab

Can anyone clarify - does my isolation end Monday AM (day 8 of isolation for my DS who is positive) or do I need to complete the 10 days?

ColettesEarrings · 13/08/2021 06:59

@WidowTwonky Yes your isolating ends is you are over 18 and 14 days post double jabbed.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/851/regulation/2/made

"(9) After regulation 18, insert—

“Transitional provision
19. Where—

(a)a person (“Y”)—
(i)satisfies the conditions in regulation 2B(6)(a), (b) or (c), or is a child, and
(ii)is subject to the self-isolation requirement in regulation 2B(2) or (3) immediately before 16th August 2021, and
(b)Y’s period of self-isolation would, apart from this regulation, continue beyond that date,
the period of self-isolation for Y comes to an end at the beginning of 16th August 2021.”

Sorry, already linked above!

RoseAndRose · 13/08/2021 07:43

I just hope that people who have a confirmed case at home will decide to exercise caution in public places (particularly indoors) ie rather like the old SD advice.
