Nobody? Am I the only one left to get a first dose?

Sorry you feel ignored, but you posted less than 20 minutes ago. It is nearly 10pm, and not everyone is in your position and able to give an answer.

There are still people who come on this board who are even yet to book their first dose for various reasons. If you look back a few pages, there are threads from people who were very anxious and were given a lot of great advice about how to get through it.
I hope it goes well for you.

@XenoBitch thank you. That’s helpful

Gardengate45 · 11/08/2021 22:05

Is it process you’re feeling nervous about or the possible side effects?

XenoBitch · 11/08/2021 22:05

Do you have someone to go with you? Also, make sure you treat yourself afterwards. There was someone on this board who took a long time to book her slot, but she did it and bought herself some lovely boots as a reward for herself. Ignore anyone who makes out it is no big deal.. if you have anxiety/panic about it then it can seem like a huge mountain to climb.

Kendodd · 11/08/2021 22:14

Do you have a booking op or are you doing a walk in?

Kendodd · 11/08/2021 22:20

I volunteer at a big vaccine hub. We see all kinds. We've had people shaking and in tears because they're scared regularly. Just remember, theyre the really brave ones, if you're not frightened (as most aren't) then it doesn't take any courage.
Well done you!

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 22:30

@Gardengate45 side effects- I’ll deal with the needle but terrified of adverse side effects. I was leaning towards AZ but now thinking Pfizer as I cannot cope with linking everything to the blood clots

@XenoBitch husband will drive me. Unfortunately daughter will be there (7) as no one to leave her with…she might see me having a melt down

@Kendodd walk in- can I ask in the walk in centres do you have enough support for possible anaphylaxis? Epi pens, trained nurse etc?

Can your DD not stay with your husband in the car? From what I have read on here, if you are visibly anxious then you get to queue jump anyway. You could be in and out in minutes.

I've had both doses now of Pfizer and honestly I barely know I've had it. I felt fine, my arm only ached a little but that happens with any injection.

I think you should probably prep your daughter and explain that you have a phobia but there is nothing to actually be scared of. You don't want to pass on your fear to her. I had a similar conversation with my nephew about my fear of spiders and he now deals with them for me. Grin

Cousinit · 11/08/2021 22:40

I had my first dose (Pfizer) two days ago. I am usually fine getting vaccines but I'll admit I was anxious about this one. In the event, it was quick and easy and felt the same as any other vaccination. My arm was sore for 24 hours and I was very tired yesterday. The upside of that was I had the best night's sleep I've had in a long time. Today I feel fine. You will be fine too. Well done for making the decision to get it.

Josiemac93 · 11/08/2021 22:47

Hi! I just had my second dose of AZ today, 5 months after my first dose. The ONLY reason I waited is because of anxiety. I had a full mental breakdown after my first dose. You CAN do this OP!!!! The risks of covid are much higher than of the vaccine. You will be absolutely fine and they're sooo lovely at the vaccine centres. I sobbed talking to the nurses today even whilst they vaccinated me but they were so nice and reassuring. Good luck I hope it goes well. I had to do walk in as well because I couldn't bare the looming anxiety over an appointment! Xxx

Kendodd · 11/08/2021 22:56

Yes, they have everything.

If you're very nervous you queue jump at our centre, although theres rarely more than a five minute wait anyway. If they have volunteer available (they usually do) they can hold your hand throughout at our centre. They can also vaccinated you lying down if you fear you'll faint.

Tippexy · 11/08/2021 22:57

Ah. You again.

Kendodd · 11/08/2021 22:59

Let someone know how scared you are when you get there.

PurpleDaisies · 11/08/2021 23:00

Op you need to talk to your gp again.

They would not have told you not to get the vaccine because of your anxiety lightly.

AnswerPlease1 · 11/08/2021 23:01

@Cousinit could I know how old you are please? I’m 40 so wondering if the side effects will be more or less based on age

Isn’t this essentially identical to your other thread? Confused

Plural! This must be the tenth one…
Kendodd · 11/08/2021 23:05

As for side effects, lots of people feel really rough the next day, cold/flu like symptoms, this isn't uncommon but doesn't last long, then you're fine (if you suffer in the first place). Serious side effects, like blood clots, are extremely rare, unlike with covid, were blood clots are much, much more likely.

Kendodd · 11/08/2021 23:07

Go tomorrow op.
Just go to a walk in, get it done, then it's over.
