Jabs for 13 year olds

I have been out of the loop for a while. I know we are currently not vaccinating this age group.

Doe anyone have any thoughts or speculation as to when this will kick off?

..as to when this will kick off

Well this post seems like it's in good faith Grin

What's your opinion of vaccinating 13 year olds @Scramblinghealingdreaming?

Scramblinghealingdreaming · 11/08/2021 12:26

I have no idea. I have kept on top of the (none MSM) news for months but have been out of the loop.

I'm just starting to research again.

OP posts:
Scramblinghealingdreaming · 11/08/2021 12:28

Oh I see, you asked my opinion.

Sorry post not about that, it's about the practicalities - just wondering when it will start.

Sorry if my terminology touched a nerve. I work in discrete projects and the start of a project or sub project would be termed as kick off. That's all.

But what is your opinion? Or are you hoping to get access for your child?

Right now there are no plans to offer vaccination to healthy 12-15 year olds who are not household contacts of CEV people.

Here's the full JCVI guidance: www.gov.uk/government/publications/jcvi-statement-august-2021-covid-19-vaccination-of-children-and-young-people-aged-12-to-17-years/jcvi-statement-on-covid-19-vaccination-of-children-and-young-people-aged-12-to-17-years-4-august-2021

Foliageeverywhere122 · 11/08/2021 13:00

Out of interest, when you say you don't get news from "MSM", what does that actually cover? @Scramblinghealingdreaming

Atalune · 11/08/2021 13:02

What do you think? Do you have a child of that age?
What time is your article due in? Grin

Rosehip10 · 11/08/2021 13:07

"Researching" outside "msm" indeed I.e reading shit on dodgy websites and "experts who tell the truth" on social media. Biscuit

Scramblinghealingdreaming · 11/08/2021 13:26

I genuinely am sorry, I didn't realise how this is such a sensitive subject.

I will add some context then. I am in favour of the vaccination. I am double jabbed as are all members of my family over 18.

We have an enormous surge in cases where we are but fortunately not in hospitalisation or anything beyond mild illness so far.

I am feeing more anxious about the younger members of my family and am starting to have thoughts and conversations around their possible vaccination.

Re outside MSM, I feel the government has lied to us many times. They freely admit to using behavioural science such as nudge theories to make the population act in certain ways. This may work for society as a whole (debatable) but not for the individual making decisions in isolation or for their family.

I believe MSM only report a very curated set of news. Therefore I follow independent scientists, professors and leaders in the field of virology and medicine among other fields. It's not as easy to just tap into these sources as it is to switch on the BBC or even more independent MSM such as foreign newspapers. However I'm making a start. Just wondered if anybody had a heads up! I'll crawl back into my corner now.

OP posts:
Foliageeverywhere122 · 11/08/2021 13:37

@Scramblinghealingdreaming I wouldn't say it's a sensitive subject, more that there's a huge number of people not posting in good faith.

Not disagreeing the government has been incompetent, lied, and made ridiculous U-turns.

But equally, I'll just point out that these "independent scientists" who aren't able to get any airtime on "MSM" (still not completely sure what that covers but am guessing) are those that are spouting pseudoscience and various other nonsense.

There are plenty of genuine scientists with expertise and experience in relevant areas, who have disagreed with the governments strategies, who have been published, interviewed etc.

Scramblinghealingdreaming · 11/08/2021 14:22

Absolutely there are. There are many, many more who aren't given any airtime who are far more competent, qualified and experienced than those who appear on MSM. And I mean officially qualified and working in highly esteemed professions.

I would rather get my information from peer reviewed, multi disciplinary referenced papers published in The Lancet than whoever is trying to raise their profile with Andrew Marr on a Sunday morning.

Gosh this is hard work. I guess the answer to my question is 'no idea but let's get off topic and quarrelsome'.

Peteycat · 11/08/2021 14:26

Scramblinghealingdreaming please don't apologise on here. You are only questioning the safety of children. No one should apologise or be shouted down for that. Looking at you Foliage everywhere!

This is such a hard topic, but I stand by your thoughts. It's safer to wait for the younger ones.

Oh and the virologists, scientists etc who don't have air time on the big channels. Well, what can I say, I don't think they have enough money or influence.

YeOldeTrout · 11/08/2021 14:28

Can you give us examples of the not-MSM and independent scientists you like to believe, Scrambling?

What are names of people who you think deserve more air time or less air time?

Foliageeverywhere122 · 11/08/2021 14:30

@Scramblinghealingdreaming

I would classify the lancet and others journals as "MSM" though? Not sure why you wouldn't?

I am genuinely interested to know some of the names of the competent, qualified and experienced scientists are, with papers published in journals like the lancet, who are being blocked and not given airtime?

Literally no-one, including the OP, has commented on whether or not children should be offered the coronavirus vaccine.

The original post was to ask when it would be "kicking off", to which I posted the JCVI update stating there were no plans for them to be offered it.

Peteycat · 11/08/2021 14:53

Thoughts on possible vaccination... Right there at the top.

Yea she said that she was anxious about the younger members of her family. So yea, I stand by my previous comment thank you.

MenaiMna · 11/08/2021 14:57

Thanks foliage, useful link. I'm CEV and have a 13yo so, like OP, looking for opportunity to get them vaxxed.

illuyankas · 11/08/2021 15:03

I have 13 years old, and I already had many conversation regarding vaccination.
We have been learning things together, about virus, immunity, vaccination, etc. So, I am confident that my 13 years old is capable to decide what he want to do. He is very sure he wants to be vaccinated when he is offered.

HGC2 · 11/08/2021 15:07

CEV household and my 13 year old is booked for next week, they are delighted to be getting it as their 17 year old sibling has also had theirs. No plans for under 16s with either their own health conditions or from a CEV household yet as far as I am aware

Atalune · 11/08/2021 15:55

Would love to hear some alternative but still credible sources of information op if you have the links etc?

BeautifulTulips · 11/08/2021 18:48

Does anyone know if 13 year olds can have a vaccine if not household members of someone ECV, but they are a close family member?

Foliageeverywhere122 · 12/08/2021 13:12

As far as I know only those that are household members are eligible, but could be worth going to a drop in centre to discuss if you've got one nearby?
Foliageeverywhere122 · 12/08/2021 13:19

@Scramblinghealingdreaming

Also still very interested in this and what these "alternative viewpoints" are as you haven't actually said who they are and what they're disagreeing with? Under 16s aren't being offered the vaccine.

As I said, I'd consider the Lancet and other journals "MSM", which are picked up by the press, and I haven't heard of any scientists simultaneously getting their work published in a high quality journal but then being blocked about talking about it on the BBC or other.

There are quite a few high profile scientists who don't believe it's worthwhile vaccinating children, and again these views and relevant evidence are reported widely in newspapers etc.

natrivs · 12/08/2021 17:29

My Son is 13 and we had a text from our Gp this week stating they are inviting 12-15 year olds and for him to book his vaccine. There are no CEV members in our household.
