Covid After effects?

Hi

I was diagnosed with covid around 3 weeks ago. It was a pretty dreadful 10 days or so but I've been left absolutely wiped out, coughijg with a weird buzzing sensation pulsing through my body every 5 minutes or so. It can leave me quite disoriented and confused for a moment or so. Ive stopped driving for now just in case but I just wondered if anyone else has had this?

I was going to ring the GP but the waiting times are around a week at the moment.

I, along with many other long Covid patients, had fizzing or popping sensations in my muscles for months after the acute infection. For me, it was mainly in my arms and legs, but I wonder if your “buzzing” is a similar sensation.
Get as much rest as possible, and build up exercise very slowly, as one day of exertion can leave you wiped out on the sofa for three days afterwards. I am 18 months post being hospitalised with Covid, and only really began to improve after 15 months. I’m still only back to about 50% of my previous fitness.

Thank you so much for your reply. That's absolutely me. Felt great on Saturday so went to a birthday party..Sunday morning still fine so went fishing..Sunday afternoon I felt like I was going to die. Yesterday on the couch all day. Its so frustrating as everyone else in the family has jusy bounced back. Do you think its worth seeing a gp?

There is no effective specific treatment yet, OP. The GP can really just look for other causes of fatigue, such as anaemia.
Some areas of the country are setting up long Covid clinics, but again it’s mostly breathing exercises and physiotherapy.
My advice is to pace yourself. Don’t plan several active days together, factor in some rest days.
You may improve relatively quickly- not everyone gets long Covid, and you are still in the early phase of recovery from the acute illness.
I had to hire a gardener and get my shopping delivered for a year - I couldn’t even mow my lawn or struggle round the supermarket, and was breathless at 100 yards, having previously been able to walk 8 miles. I hope you are less buggered by the wretched virus, and bounce back soon!

I wouldn't panic yet, op
Up to 12 weeks is within normal for full recovery. Don't rush to diagnose yourself with long covid. Proper flu is similar and takes about three months to fully get over.
Just rest, eat well and very gently increase your activity level, guided by your own energy levels. Seriously, three weeks is nothing. You'll probably be fine in the near future!
