First vaccine in England, second in Scotland - how to prove for travel

mibbelucieachwell · 09/08/2021 17:04

DS is getting his second dose of Moderna tomorrow (hopefully) in Scotland. He had his first dose in England. Does anyone have any experience of getting proof for travel.

NHS App doesn't apply to Scotland.

Don't know if he'd be better getting the 2nd in England as the 2 systems don't seem to be able to connect to show both doses at the same time

Cookerhood · 09/08/2021 17:58

Yes, if at all possible get them in the same country as the systems aren't joined up for vaccine passport purposes.

mibbelucieachwell · 09/08/2021 23:27

Thanks.

He's hoping to get it in Scotland tomorrow 6 weeks after the first dose. I don't think he'll get it before 8 weeks in England? Which will be too late for his course in Germany Sad

Didn't think scotland were doing 2nd doses before 8 weeks

dementedpixie · 09/08/2021 23:30

Drop in clinics say you need to be 8 weeks from the 1st dose

mibbelucieachwell · 09/08/2021 23:45

It's not official policy but his GP said he was fine with it and to ask.
I am classed as immunosuppressed so he has two reasons. We'll see tomorrow.

It's very difficult to prove as the two systems are not linked he could try through his GP.
There are only a few exceptions that the clinics will accept for a reduced timescale usually around travel due to funeral or end of life visiting (so a nurse in my local vaccination centre told me).

StiggyZardust · 09/08/2021 23:58

The NHS Scotland and NHS England apps don't link up.
Once he's had both doses, can he print a copy of his vaccine record from each app?

shg96 · 10/08/2021 00:00

Highly doubt he will get his second one in Scotland. I tried 10+ drop in’s (from Glasgow to the borders to the highlands) and got a firm
no at each as not 8 weeks. I ended up going to London to get my second one after 1st one in Scotland and got it at 4.5 weeks.

Both my doses appeared on my NHS inform account but unsure how it works if first is in England and second in Scotland

Wellbythebloodyhell · 10/08/2021 00:00

It's a tricky situation, if ideally he needs it sooner for travelling purposes then great get it done If you can, but if it means he won't be able to prove it by a covid passport then is it worth it?
These covid passports have been an absolute nightmare for us at the vaccine centres , some doses not showing for whatever reason, and we have no knowledge at all where to turn too or who can rectify it! If the 2 NHS systems in England And Scotland aren't compatible and don't recall/accept each others info its very likely to cause problems re covid passports

dementedpixie · 10/08/2021 00:01

There isn't a app in Scotland to prove vaccination status. You need to log into the vaccination website and request a paper copy to be sent out. Dont think it has a QR code on the Scottish one either

Wilkolampshade · 10/08/2021 06:38

My DD had her 1St in Scotland and 2nd in England.
The English one showed up immediately in her NHS app. The Scottish one still hasn't and despite people saying it will eventually I don't know anyone in our position whois not now considering getting a third to fill that 'gap' in their record.
She recently went to Spain and was able to prove her status at the airport by showing them to Scottish paper certificate AND the NHS (England) app. But its been a nightmare and I can't see this working in restaurants etc.
She got her 2nd jab VERY early in England (3 weeks) by trying numerous walk in centres, go on 'redditt' and check the vaccination metathread for centres which do this. If you possibly can please please get them both in England it will be much easier.

Thank you for the advice.

Sounds like a shambles tbh.

Scottish govt not managing this as well as the UK government. Again. Unlike in England it isn't possible to book online here. Scottish Independence advocates take note.

Honestly your probably best having a drive to an English drop in clinic which has moderna not only more likely to get it but easier for travel documentation as well as its all on a app rather than our crap system currently of a letter which you have to request and takes 2 weeks to be delivered!

mibbelucieachwell · 10/08/2021 16:21

Thank you for the advice. Too late though. He got it in Glasgow. The risk of going to England just to get the vaccine ahead of him going back down to England just before the end of August is that he wouldn't get it in time. Fingers crossed the Scottish system comes good before then.

There was a BBC article a while ago about some people in the same situation not sure if it had to resolve it on it or not!

Make sure he has his login details for the Scottish system (he can call the vaccination line) as it will make it easier to show.

We are also hoping the SG joins the 21st century soon with the app proof for holiday rather than carrying a letter around in our pocket!

mibbelucieachwell · 14/08/2021 08:23

Just in case anyone else might be in a similar situation. DS's Scottish vaccine cert lists both doses he got.
Which implies that the Scottish system can see the English system?

Can his English app see the Scottish one as he will find that a lot easier to travel on due to QR code and scan capability rather than letters which are causing issues in Europe.
Cookerhood · 14/08/2021 13:45

The system can see it using their NHS number. I know this for a fact as I have vaccinated English students studying in Wales & I presume it's the same for those done in Scotland. When I went to put their vaccination on it knew that they were due their second jab. However for some reason you can't get it on the app in England if they are registered with an English GP but vaccinated in Wales (not sure what happens in Wales - I don't think they have an app).
If you aren't registered with a GP in England but are registered with one in Scotland or Wales you can't get the NHS App.

KylieKoKo · 14/08/2021 13:45

Someone I know in this position has just resorted to having a third jab so they have two in England as it seemed impossible to get the Scottish on recognised.

swashbucklecheer · 14/08/2021 13:49

If it is any consolation there is the same problem with England and Northern Ireland jabs too.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/08/2021 14:34

Thanks for the advice. I'll tell him to register with an English GP so he can hopefully get the NHS QR code.

Cookerhood · 14/08/2021 16:36

I'm not sure it will help if he's had a vaccine in Scotland, but I could be completely wrong. You can contact NHS digital for advice about the app I think if you go onto the gov.uk website.

Cookerhood · 14/08/2021 16:40

I've just read back & if he has a certificate from Scotland with both on it I'm sure that will be enough. He won't have time to register with a GP in England & for his records to catch up, I wouldn't have thought.
