Likelihood of catching covid...? :(

Hello,

So a lady I work very closely with every day, same office around a desks width apart, called in sick today as she's having to isolate. Her wife has contracted covid, testing positive on several tests over the weekend and still today.
She believes her wife caught it whilst out socially on Wednesday / Thursday last week.
I worked with this lady all week last week in close proximity.

My office are now having to all test daily (we were doing 2 times a week) since we are all in a shared and very enclosed space. I just wondered if anybody knows the likelihood of catching the virus, and the incubation period?

I ask as I'm due to take my MIL to hospital this week for an appointment and she's already frail and vulnerable. I would hate to pass anything to her.

Hard to say but unlikely if you haven't seen her since Friday.

Cookerhood · 09/08/2021 15:08

Well if here wide caught it on Thursday or Friday, your office colleague probably wouldn't shed virus until Saturday (is she positive?) so you should be fine. Or have you seen the wife?

Cookerhood · 09/08/2021 15:08

her wife

thunderandlightningg · 09/08/2021 15:09

Okay thank you both. No I haven't seen her wife, luckily just my colleague who I was married with friday.

Start again: Wednesday or Thursday would mean she might shed virus Friday or Saturday.

I was a close contact child in my class didn’t catch it

Then my daughter caught it, 4 others in the house and no one else caught it including someone who is CEV

I understand the virus takes 48 hours to shed after catching.

Are you in touch with your colleague? If so, you could ask them to let you know if they have any positive tests (you can take a PCR as a contact) or have any symptoms.

Thanks all, colleague hasn't currently tested positive but said today she's beginning to feel achey, but doesn't know if it's just in her mind.
It's a hard one to know. I'll keep an eye out.

I sat in a covid triage room a couple weeks ago with my toddler who had a fever. I sat in a small, not well ventilated room for 5 hours with 6 positive covid patients. We were obviously distanced but they were busy & it wasn’t as distanced as it should be. We shared doctors & nurses. Neither myself or my daughter caught it. I was convinced we would but we didn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had covid in December & due to have young kids, didn’t isolate in my house. I wasn’t particularly ill & continued to bed share with my kids & OH. We carried on as a normal couple, had sex a couple times (not at the same time the kids were in our bed 😂).. he never caught it..!

It’s one of those things. It flies round some groups & others you think would be a dead cert, it doesn’t get passed on! It’s a bit weird really.

I understand your concern, but I think 48 hours is about right. So, if her wife caught it on Wednesday or Thursday and showed symptoms Friday or Saturday, it is likely that your colleague would have caught it then. So, she'd be shedding virus from Sunday or Monday?

Daily testing seems sensible.

I think you’re probably okay. If the wife caught it weds, earliest she would be infectious was fri.

If your colleague caught it fri, she wouldn’t have been infectious for a couple of days.

I’m not saying don’t be careful, but I think you’re alright.
