Travelling to the US?

Does anyone have any experience - or clearer understanding - of the rules to travelling to the US?

My son and I (US citizens living in the UK) & DH (UK citizen) are trying to work out if we're able to get back to see my parents. I thought as US citizens/immediate family we would be okay too, but none of the guidance online is very clear.

I know my parents could travel here, but wouldn't be able to due to health/surgeries they have scheduled

In my understanding, you should definitely be okay to travel back as US citizens and your DH should be okay as the husband of a US citizen as well.

Try reading through some of the guidance here in case I’m incorrect!

You definitely can travel to the US! I just got back today with my UK citizen husband. He will need to bring a photocopy of your passport and your original marriage certificate. You and your children will be able to enter on your US passports. My husband travelled separately to me and said it was not problem.

Testing requirements vary by state but for most you will need to take a test in the UK before you fly and a few days after arriving. To re-enter the UK you will need to take tests again in the US before leaving and then on day 2 after you arrive back. As long as you are fully vaccinated you will not need to quarantine. You will need to bring with you to the airport proof of tests and proof of vaccine (I'd recommend requesting the NHS document).

Just check and double check all of the requirements from the home office and US immigration. It is more complicated than pre-COVID travel but so worth seeing family after this horrible year!

Oh amazing @USAUK202 ! It was this line from the US embassy site that made me really nervous that we couldn't actually go.

U.S. citizens residing in the United Kingdom are subject to the ‘Stay at Home’ regulations. You should not travel abroad unless it is permitted under the rules. This means you may not go on holiday.

As long as you had the vaccination proof though, it was fine getting through?

Did you bring tests with you? Or could you get them there at CVS or something?
