New rules- whole 10 days?

So it’s happened- DH has done a regular LFT and got a faint line. Toddler
Has woken up with a cold so we’re all off for a PCR later this morning. Given that we’re isolating for 10 days now (can’t see DH’s being a false positive, his back also hurts), once the 16th comes around will that mean we can follow the new rules and if we don’t test positive, we can get some freedom a little sooner? Or is it a case of the full10 days and it only applies to cases after rule change?

Oh sorry saw the legislation had already been posted!

ColettesEarrings · 11/08/2021 21:15

Don't worry about it @RosemaryRosemary, the mite we bump the actual legislation the better.

@Miseryl the legislation is clear. Any existing contact isolation can end on 16th providing you are over 18 and 14 days post second jab or under 18. Anyone who tests positive themselves must always continue to complete their ten days. It would perhaps be helpful though if a govt minister or spokesperson publicised the end of existing contact isolation during a press conference.

Yes I agree, it is clear on the links. The Gov website itself does not spell it out clearly. Some clear guidance from the Govt. needs to be published soon.

Article in the Guardian today:
www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/11/no-need-for-fully-jabbed-covid-contacts-to-isolate-from-monday-confirms-javid?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

“And anyone who was told before 16 August to go into isolation, with their isolation period due to end after 16 August, will instead be able to leave isolation from Monday.”

Imfedupwithallofthis · 12/08/2021 06:31

@Miseryl

The T & T lady I spoke to today said yes any existing isolations have to be completed but any contacts after 16th won't count.
www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-removed-for-double-jabbed-close-contacts-from-16-august

"If their self-isolation period began before 16 August and was due to end after 16 August, they will be able to leave self-isolation on 16 August."

Imfedupwithallofthis · 12/08/2021 06:35

Sorry, query had already been answered!

But the link is to the legislation, rather than newspaper report. Only published yesterday, I have been looking for a few days for the definitive law.

Oblomov21 · 12/08/2021 06:44

Thanks for the legislation. But it's clear that most people just don't know do they?

GingerandTilly · 12/08/2021 06:49

Do you think this will change? There’s been a lot of news this week saying vaccinated people can still transmit. So if your spouse is positive and you’re not isolating then potentially you could still transmit even if vaccinated. It seems crazy that people can live with positive cases and not have to isolate, especially if they are not mandating masks.. I’m really not looking forward to winter.

GingerandTilly Who knows? There's still four days between now and Monday morning, that's ages for this govt to u-turn! 😂🙄

Borington · 12/08/2021 09:23

The government statement is now really clear that self isolation for close contacts ends on Sunday - which is super helpful. As long as theres no u-turn!

Thanks @Imfedupwithallofthis for posting.

The amount of transmission is different though. A study published last week found that double vaccinated people are 3 times less likely to even test positive. And that before they look at transmission.
So there is already a 3-fold decrease in risk.
There is some justification for treating double-vaccinated people differently, even if the risk of transmission is not zero.

I know the legislation has been posted, but this is a bit easier to understand. It confirms the legislation that anyone whose isolation began before 16th Aug can stop isolating then.
