Your understanding of isolation periods?

I'm sorry if this has been done before but what is your understanding of isolation periods in a household where multiple people catch covid?

E.g. Person 1 tests positive and is told to isolate for 10 days with the rest of the household. Person 2 tests positive 5 days later. Person 2 is advised to isolate for 10 days and everyone else in the household to restart their isolation including person 1 from person 2's positive tests so an additional 10days to the 5 days they have already isolated from person 1s initial positive test.

I understand person 2 starting the isolation again but person 1 has thrown me and I didn't realise that were the rules.

Asked around irl and everyone else thinks person 1 should be out of isolation after their 10 days. Called 119 who have confirmed their isolation restarts.

Both people in the household double jabbed if that helps.

Person 1 struggling with isolation. Affecting mental health.

No I don’t think person 1 needs to restart their isolation from day 5… it’s 10 days from their positive test (or start of symptoms) isn’t it? The other people in the house with no symptoms do need to restart their 10 days from person 2’s positive test though. That’s my understanding anyway.

That was mine until it happened. I was sure when person 1 called 119 for clarity today they would tell them the same but haven't.

only person 2's isolation resets.

Person 1 ends after 10 days regardless.

Amyone else in the house either leave isolation with person 1 or if they test positive 10 days after their positive result.

From gov.uk

If you develop symptoms while you are isolating, arrange to have a COVID-19 PCR test. If your test result is positive, follow the advice for people with COVID-19 to stay at home and start a further full 10 day isolation period. This begins when your symptoms started, regardless of where you are in your original 10 day isolation period. This means that your total isolation period will be longer than 10 days.

If other household members develop symptoms during this period, you do not need to isolate for longer than 10 days.

Thank you very much everyone. I actually called 119 myself today who confirmed this. Person 1 and 2 are my df and dm.

Df called again and they told him once again he has to reisolate. Then DM rang and they told her the same as they had told me and that is that his isolation ends after 10 days and he does not have to restart it. Thank goodness.

Really messed with his mental health.
