To isolate or not?

So, one of my DC has spent time with a friend whose has two family members who have recently tested positive on a lateral flow test. DC was there two days before the positive test, for about two hours, and didn't see one of the two family members at all, but did spend some time with the other. Neither had any symptoms. They are doing PCR tests tomorrow but expecting them to be positive too.

My understanding is that, despite this, technically DC only needs to isolate if we are contacted by track and trace and/or develops symptoms. Is that right?

That said I am planning on keeping DC at home, and isolated, certainly until the PCR results are known.

Yes, unless they have symptoms they only need to isolate if their own test is positive or the family members is positive

It doesn't really matter if you're planning on doing it anyway

Thanks, for the replies.

I think my question really is, assuming that the other family's PCR tests are positive, and my DC has no symptoms will DC need to isolate regardless or only if Test and Trace contact us to say it is necessary.

My reading of the rules (which may well be wrong) is that it is only necessary if Test and Trace tell us it is. That seems a bit odd to me...

At the moment it’s advice to isolate when someone has had contact with a positive case. It only becomes legal when contacted by Test and Trace. All this changes from 16 August in uk, whereby you don’t have to isolate if you are 17 and younger, or if an adult is fully vaccinated. You will be advised to get a PCR test.

Thanks very much Mindymomo, that's extremely helpful.
