Needle phobic teen

Does anybody know if you can go in with your teen (17) for their vaccination? My DS is extremely needle phobic and I honestly don't think I'll be able to get him there unless I go in with him!

Yes I went with my 17 year old DD on Wednesday Smile

TeamNegan · 07/08/2021 18:55

I’m needle phobic and my husband was allowed in so I’m sure you can Smile

It's probably too late for the vaccine, but needle phobia is very treatable via IAPT services.
It might be worth suggesting your DS seeks treatment in case he needs medical intervention in the future.

TeamNegan · 07/08/2021 18:57

Ps. Not sure if it’ll help at all, but I’d been putting it off for weeks due to my phobia and it literally did not hurt at all, not even a “sharp scratch”!

I asked when I had mine about my needle phobic 17yo. What they said is arrive with her and ask for a "green card" that means that they are aware that she has issues, and will firstly let her in with someone to support, but will also put her to the front of the queue so she doesn't have to wait getting wound up.

I would think so.

Yes, you can.

I did

Cookerhood · 07/08/2021 19:04

Definitely. I vaccinate & you could bring the whole family if necessary! Let people know though & they will make it as easy as possible.

My DD is needle phobic too and usually faints when having injections/blood tests etc. She had her first jab on Thursday and I informed the lady on the door that she was needle phobic and they couldn’t have been more helpful. They let me and dh go in with her and let her lie on a bed rather than sit on a chair to have the jab in case she fainted. This made her a lot more relaxed and fortunately she didn’t faint this time! Good luck ☺️

Of course you can go with him. You an also skip the queue in too if he is getting agitated whilst waiting.

I hope it goes well and that you do something nice afterwards.

Amazing thank you so much, I thought that you probably could but didn't want to promise him in case it wasn't the case! It's his 17th birthday tomorrow & there's walk-ins nearby it could be a birthday to remember ( I'm joking)
He'll go now I think if he knows I'll be there!
