... where does this end given that Covid is likely never to be eradicated? Are you expecting restrictions to continue literally forever? If not, what would need to happen for us to get back to January 2020-type normal?

I don’t see the issue with the question?

When is ok? All vaccinated, all plus dc, winter over, world vaccinated.. loads of different answers

luckylavender · 07/08/2021 18:24

It's just that none of us has a crystal ball so how could we know. How will winter be? When will the world be vaccinated?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 07/08/2021 18:29

Maybe when cases are very low or if it mutates to be less dangerous to the vulnerable.

MarshaBradyo · 07/08/2021 18:30

Ok I’ll answer

The isolation changes Aug 16th? Iirc - For those who are vaccinated out of adults

Masks - I would hope after winter

Howshouldibehave · 07/08/2021 18:32

Hopefully when the vaccine is offered to children as well as adults.

Chikenyhead · 07/08/2021 18:33

Once we know how long the vaccine protection lasts for me. CEV DC.

Comedycook · 07/08/2021 18:33

@Howshouldibehave

Hopefully when the vaccine is offered to children as well as adults.
It's just ever changing goalposts then.

Vaccinate all the elderly and vulnerable

Vaccinate all adults

Vaccinate everyone

Booster vaccinations

Warhertisuff · 07/08/2021 18:38

@Howshouldibehave

Hopefully when the vaccine is offered to children as well as adults.
But children would presumably still be able to catch it. And what about the CEV for whom vaccines aren't effective?

It doesn’t end, things will change however.

Are you expecting restrictions to continue literally forever?

In some form or another yes. We live with plenty of notifiable diseases that have big impacts when there are outbreaks. Schools close for deep cleaning, hospitals and care homes restrict visitors, patients are isolated - all for something as simple as norovirus. Prevalence is the difference. The less prevalent covid is the less you will notice but it will likely still trigger protocols associated with notifiable diseases. So in summary, yes there will be long term restrictions associated with covid but you may or may not be affected.

All of that depends on covid remaining a fairly stable disease and the majority of the population retaining some degree of immunity.

If not, what would need to happen for us to get back to January 2020-type normal?

On very many levels this is not happening the impacts of covid are too far reaching to expect to go back in time and ignore that it happened at all. It’s a global disaster, it will shape our future whether you like it or not.

Cornettoninja · 07/08/2021 18:49

Yes. That’s what happens in a developing situation. If it didn’t we’d still be in lockdown from March 2020.

bellamountain · 07/08/2021 19:05

Wrong place to ask this question. In the real world however, you'd get very different answers.
