Vaccinated in two different countries - any issues?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/08/2021 09:08

DS1 had his first vaccination (Pfizer) in the UK. He's currently in France and has the opportunity to get his second one there (also Pfizer).
If he does this, he won't need to self isolate when he cones back (as long as he returns 15 days after his second jab).
But - are there going to be any admin issues in getting the NHS (or the covid checks at the airport) to recognise his second jab, because it was done in France, and not via the NHS?

Possibly.
He can show proof of both jabs at the airport but he won't get an NHS certificate yet...

Can he get a french certificate?

Wilkolampshade · 07/08/2021 09:19

Probably. UK students who were vaxxed in one nation (in our case Scotland) then received second in England haven't been able to have theirs recognised on the app.
Lots of media coverage on it...

DamnUserName21 · 07/08/2021 09:21

Just to add, proof of two jabs without an actual certificate might not be sufficient for DS to avoid self-isolation.

BlueSurfer · 07/08/2021 09:21

He needs to make sure he can still get a vaccine passport or appropriate proof he is fully vaccinated in a manner both (and other) countries will accept.

I can’t see the admin side of it being straightforward for a while.

titchy · 07/08/2021 09:26

Bucketloads of a admin issues - don't do it!

AllTheSingleLadiess · 07/08/2021 09:39

I've heard that the NHS app can't cope with someone being jabbed in England and Scotland so wouldn't get a jab in France

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/08/2021 10:14

Thanks all,
I've advised him against it and forwarded the press links you've provided. However he is an adult so it's up to him to make up his own mind.

He's just responded to me with the following message. Ah I reckon it'll be fine

In the context of the NHS app and travel abroad there’s
at least one mention of…

“ You must have been vaccinated in England.”

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/08/2021 10:40

I have an update.
His gf has already done this and was provided with a full EU (French) vaccination certificate, which includes the batch number if her first jab which was done in the UK.

Great news!

Great news OP, why we can't manage to align our own nations god only knows.....

That’s good news’s, thanks for the update, though the Brit abroad element of me can’t help a few thoughts along the lines of

“…coming over here, nicking our jabs….Grin

The lack of things being joined up, UK vs. EU and vaccination certainly was one of the things that was hacking off many of the Brits living in the EU so any progress is a good thing…

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2021 11:37

DD1 did this and has the French certificate and EU pass. They added her U.K. vaccination with no problem. I’d suggest he does the same. She went to the centre where she had her vaccine and they just took her details and added her.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2021 11:37

In France. She’s had no joy getting this done in U.K.

notimagain · 07/08/2021 11:55

Just a passing thought, with regard to joinedupnessHmm

ATM does an EU vaccination completed cert carry as much weight with UK authorities as a NHS one (it didn’t at the Border until a few days back)?

Does the NHS app import and display a EU vaccinated cert?

Cookerhood · 07/08/2021 15:40

Unbelievable that you can do this in Europe, but students vaccinated in any combination of Scotland/England/Wales can't!

cherin · 08/08/2021 07:55

The flip coin of the medal is that a EU green pass has the potential to enable access to all sorts of activities in Eu (including travel, indoor venues, restaurants, museum etc) which you don’t get with a U.K. certificate. If you are a Eu citizen vaccinated in the U.K. you can go to your local health authorities and get that “translated” into a green pass, if and when one had the time, language skill, and will to do it. I don’t think it’s yet on, but even taking a local train in Italy will require a pass. So having a EU certificate might be quite valuable if one needs to stay in the Eu for a bit more than a fleeting holiday…:-)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/08/2021 09:09

@cherin
DS1 is studying in Antwerp from Sept to Feb (Erasmus scheme deferred from last year) so you are absolutely right, this could actually be advantageous for him.

Update.

My son has sent me a photo of his spangly new EU covid passport, and they have also added the vaccine batch details to his NHS card (received when he got his first jab).
Now to see if he gets back into the UK without issues at the end of the month...
