Another self-isolation question

Our household has been in close contact with a positive case but have all tested negative (tested 3 days after contact day). We still haven’t heard from test and trace. My DP is saying as we haven’t been contacted and we are all negative, we don’t need to isolate (they have definitely passed on our contact details) whereas I’m saying we still need to isolate as we were in contact with positive case the day before they developed symptoms.

What sort of contact was it? Outdoors/indoors?
Legally you don't need to isolate unless told to by test and trace. Are you/your dh vaccinated?

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 10:20

Indoors, overnight. Yes, we are double vaccinated

if you havent been contacted and they are not in your household i doubt you need to

Obviously if you haven't been contacted yet you legally don't have to but in the situation you describe you fit the definition of close contact. T and T can't contact everyone on day 1

It depends on whether you want to do the legal minimum or take a sensible approach.

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 10:29

Really? But they were technically in our household at the time (they were staying with us but saw someone else who was positive, caught it off them). They had symptoms and positive test after leaving us but it was less than 48 hours after leaving ours

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair
I think the right thing to do is isolate, DP getting annoyed about it. Saying surely we can take the dog for a walk early morning and “if we were in Wales, we wouldn’t have to” - but we’re not in Wales!

The rules are changing in uk from the 16 August, but advice at the moment is to isolate if you have been a close contact. From 16 August advice will be to get a PCR test done, but you don’t have to isolate if you have been double jabbed for more than 2 weeks. Can you do LFT tests in the meantime, whilst waiting to be contacted by test and trace.

vdbfamily · 07/08/2021 10:41

I think of you have not been Track and traced I would cautiously carry on as normal. Next week the rules change anyway and we will only isolate if we have tested positive. You are already a few days on and PCR negative. We have a risk assessment team advising who can work out not after contact and they are saying if you are 5 days post contact with Delta variant there is about 10% chance you might still test positive but after 7 or 8 days the risk is negligible as most people are positive within a couple of days of contact if they are going to be. If you imaging you might be positive and wear a mask, avoid being within 2 metres of others and avoid socialising generally for 10 days from contact, that will minimise risk

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/08/2021 11:00

well you can take the dogs out

I agree

I know the lockdown lovers will tell you you'll infect the whole neighbourhood if you dare to take your dog out at 6am but personally I'd do that, there's no risk if you don't go near anyone.

Watapalava · 07/08/2021 11:55

You should not isolate until contacted by track and trace end of

It actually says that on gov website.

It does not say you should decide yourself regardless of whether you think it’s aenaible or not

It is not government advice never mind their instruction

Watapalava · 07/08/2021 11:56

Reasonable

AbsolutelyPatsy · 07/08/2021 11:57

aside from walking the dog, how does self isolation affect you op?

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 12:03

Thanks @vdbfamily, that’s encouraging, I didn’t know that.

@AbsolutelyPatsy we were due to go on holiday tomorrow, which we’ve cancelled, so apart dog walking, we are ok to stay at home. Have arranged dog walker for mon-fri but she doesn’t work weekends

You will only be contacted if the positive person names you all specifically.

Legally you don't need to isolate unless T and T contact you.

Many work places won't honour absences unless you have the 'prove' of needing to isolate.

If you don't isolate you can still go and get tested to be a bit more careful.

In 9 days time fully vaccinated adults and under 18s won't have to isolate for close contact, even in the same household. There will also only be advice to get a test and no daily testing etc as previously suggested.

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 19:46

@Abraxan the positive contact named us and gave contact details but still nothing.

Self employed and WFH so self isolation not a problem, luckily

As soon as you are named as a contact you should be sent an automated text to advise you that you have been named as contact and to isolate.
The call from T&T should be the next day.
Have they by any chance given the wrong number for you? My friend had this and the person who had tested positive called 119 to add her as a contact with correct number - she got the text straight away when the number was correct.

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 20:31

Weird. I very much doubt it because it would mean they would have got both of our numbers wrong. They travelled back to Scotland, we are in England. I’m wondering whether this is the problem

OP posts:
ChristmasCovid · 07/08/2021 20:56

Oh it could be i know in Scotland they use Test & Protect, instead of T&T it’s a different system and I’m not sure how it works or if they send the auto texts or not!?..

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 20:58

Just asked positive friend who said the person they spoke to took our details and said “they might be in touch” with us 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
ChristmasCovid · 07/08/2021 21:27

Oh that’s a bit of a worry - does your friend remember them asking if you were in Scotland or not?

Northernlurker · 07/08/2021 21:39

Just get on with your life until advised otherwise

Chimpd0g · 07/08/2021 23:25

@ChristmasCovid yes, but it all seemed a bit vague!
