DD’s workplace aren’t following the rules are they?

So she works behind a bar in a restaurant, also takes food from the kitchen to tables.

One of the chefs is positive for covid. The company rules are if you’ve worked in close proximity to them (ie right next to them all day as the other chefs have done) then you must take a test. I thought people have to isolate?

Half the staff are refusing to take a test. One of the other chefs took an LFT while At work yesterday and went right up to Dd to show her the positive result. Work have told Dd she doesn’t work closely enough to the chefs to need to test. Over the course of a day she’s probably within 2 m of them for more than 15 mins. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve told her to take an LFT but because work are saying she doesn’t have to she’s dragging her feet.

That's chefs for you 😂

HungryHippo11 · 07/08/2021 07:26

Is she an adult or does she live with you? If she is an independent adult, then it is her issue and you don't need to get involved.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/08/2021 07:27

Close contacts should isolate, yes. Unfortunately they're probably on their knees financially and don't want to risk closing due to lack of staff.

She lives with me.

I also have lunch at her work place a few times a week (it’s a members club) so wondering whether to avoid eating there myself.

A fair bit to read but all the info is there.

Hercisback · 07/08/2021 07:31

You can get LFT yourself she can do at home. Just do that.

SpringRainbow · 07/08/2021 07:32

Has she been contacted by test and trace?

CovidCorvid · 07/08/2021 07:33

We have some at home, she isn’t taking one. They all seem to think it’s a big joke.

@SpringRainbow

Has she been contacted by test and trace?
No. So I suspect the chefs are either not getting pcrs or not telling the test and trace service who they’ve been in close contact with.

gogohm · 07/08/2021 07:38

You only have to isolate if contacted by track and trace. If the kitchen stations are more than 2m apart the chefs might not be considered close contacts. Waiting staff may not be considered to have enough sustained contact either. The moral thing might be to close for a few days and test all the staff but hospitality is on its knees financially, I have sympathy with venue owners

Hercisback · 07/08/2021 07:42

She's an adult so that's her choice. You're also an adult and presumably pay for the house so can kick her out.

SpringRainbow · 07/08/2021 07:45

@CovidCorvid ugh this is where test and trace fails. It’s open to so much abuse as it relies of people being honest.

Unfortunately, if the business and/ staff are not implementing Covid guidelines (which tbh put the onus completely of businesses to risk assess themselves) and will not engage with test and trace then I really don’t know what you can do.

This is one of the many reasons why we are where we are. The rules and test and trace rely on people’s compliance. Compliance has been declining for months and I can only see it continuing to decline.

Since you live with her all you can do is try to minimise your own risk. Has she shown any symptoms?

Snozzlemaid · 07/08/2021 07:51

@SpringRainbow

Has she been contacted by test and trace?
Is the test and trace thing still going? Both my dcs have been a close contact to someone who has tested positive recently and both times neither the person with COVID or my dc have been contacted by them. They did both isolate for 10 days though.
PopcornMuncher · 07/08/2021 07:52

Tbh the prime minister isn't following the rules either so I probably couldn't get upset about it. He will have far.more support available to follow the rules than your daughter's employer/employees

SpringRainbow · 07/08/2021 07:55

@Snozzlemaid I thought it was but maybe not?

If that is the case then I guess we really are being left to assess our own risk.

CovidCorvid · 07/08/2021 07:56

Oh well if Boris can’t be arsed then I can understand everyone else giving up. He’s a bloody twat.

If you check current rules and think they are breaking them just report to HSE.

As a business we have had a second unannounced inspection . And on one they filmed.
