Contact from nursery- equivalent to test and trace?

My son is at nursery and we were today told by nursery that his bubble had popped and he wouldn’t be allowed back to nursery for 10 days. It is a staff member who has tested positive.
We have NOT been contacted by NHS test and trace.
Do we have to self isolate or not?

The gov.uk guidance says the following:-

Tracing close contacts and isolation
Close contacts will now be identified via NHS Test and Trace and education settings will no longer be expected to undertake contact tracing.

As with positive cases in any other setting, NHS Test and Trace will work with the positive case to identify close contacts. Contacts from a setting will only be traced by NHS Test and Trace where the positive case specifically identifies the individual as being a close contact. This is likely to be a small number of individuals who would be most at risk of contracting COVID-19 due to the nature of the close contact. You may be contacted in exceptional cases to help with identifying close contacts, as currently happens in managing other infectious diseases.

Thank you for any thoughts!

Nursery should be telling you this information. We’ve had two burst bubbles & nursery room closures. Both times, nursery rang us to inform us that they were closing but on the first occasion, that DD hadn’t been in nursery on the day the positive case was so we didn’t need to isolate. On the second occasion it was a staff member but we were told DD hadn’t been in close contact as it was an adult looking after the term time only kids & my DD is full time. So we didn’t have to isolate that time either.

You need to contact nursery ASAP for confirmation. In most cases with staff members, I imagine your kid will be classed as close contact depending on the size of the nursery.

Yes the child is close contact so isolate for 10 days from contact

He should self-isolate, you do not have to.

Obviously he can;t stay home alone, but what I mean is the whole family does not have to, parents can go out to work.

Nurseries aren't taking the test and trace function any more so in theory he doesn't need to isolate unless T&T contact you. However, it's really unclear how test and trace are meant to work out who has been in contact in a nursery setting so many are continuing with their own contact tracing and many local authorities are on board with this. So the answer is legally no, morally probably.

@thanksamillion, yes, this is what I was getting at. In the absence of a contact from T and T, I think he isn’t required to isolate.
Morally is obviously a separate issue with as many different answers as there are people!

No the contact from the nursery is in place of t&t so you defo need to isolate. Or he does should I say. Though they are changing it now

School worker here. You only need to isolate or your child only needs to isolate if school send you a letter confirming you are a close contact. I have had one of these as has DS. If you don’t receive a letter then legally you don’t have to isolate. We are in a similar position as my DC and I were at a party with a child who tested positive a day later amd track and trace didn’t want to take our details, only the places he has been prior despite the mother offering our details, we were close contact so have isolated all week and are now doing daily lft.
