What did you eat when you couldn't taste or smell?

Just as the title says really. Lost all sense of taste and smell but apart from a bit of a cough I feel totally fine. Just at a loss at what people ate that didn't taste weird? I had pasta the first night and that was an ok texture but DH made a thai pork noodle meal last night and slippery noodles was like eating little worms. I had an apple before and that wasn't an awful texture. Just wondering what people had that brought just a hint of the happiness food normally brings! Oh and please tell me it doesn't last long!

I'm 2 weeks now without taste or smell. I think it varies from person to person. I know of someone who is 6 months with no taste but got smell back.

I've been eating lots of vegetable soup seasoned with salt and possibly more pepper than usual just to get a wee kick. Ate spaghetti bolognese last week and got just a tangy taste from the tomato sauce. Tried a roast chicken dinner while it wasn't awful it was just weird it all "tasting" the same.. of nothing.

After having no appetite for quite some time I am finding myself constantly hungry and grazing at quite a bit just to see if there's any satisfaction from it.

@Zombiemama it's such a strange feeling isn't it! I had grapes this morning and they were a weird texture without the taste. I had some cucumber too and that was quite nice as far as bland and tasteless things go! I'm thinking the only positive is this is going to help me lose the last of my baby weight 😂 I just love food so much. We've been doing hello fresh but I've had to cancel it cause there's literally no point in it. Sorry DH you'll have to see to yourself!

I found I could still distinguish sweet/not sweet so added masses of cranberry sauce to a roast dinner which was bland but had nice textures. Yoghurt or ice cream is creamy and cooling. Toast or raw veg (carrots etc) for crunchy. Hot drinks are comforting even without flavour. Basically go for texture or other sensations hot/cold over taste.

It's surprised me the texture things have without realising. I had some squash last night and I couldn't taste a think but I could definitely tell it had a different consistency to water. Going to try some different bits of veg etc to see if there's anything there that is worth eating. Had some dry toast before which was better than buttered toast as that felt quite greasy in my mouth. Tried sniffing a jar of lazy garlic before and got absolutely nothing. DH is enjoying testing things on me so at least it's keeping him amused 😂

There’s a free cookbook with recipes designed for exactly this from Life Kitchen (who do absolutely amazing work with people who have lost their sense of taste due to cancer treatment): lifekitchen.co.uk/product/taste-flavour-digital-book/

I was drawn to firmer chrunchie textures as anything sorter felt disgusting with no taste. I'm 7 weeks after having it but taste back after about three weeks, still no smell yet though 😭
