Where have all the vaccination appointments gone?

My 22 year old Ds needs to book a covid vaccination, he has no even had his first one. He had covid about a month ago but was under the impression he needed to wait a while. I have been trying for a few days now to book him an appointment but the online NHS site is just constantly saying no availability. I thought they were encouraging young people to get vaccinated. My dh is ECV and though we are both double jabbed, it is a worry that DS1 isn't and is working in hospitality.

I'm struggling too. I was booked for my second jab then tested positive and haven't been able to re-book. I keep getting letters and texts from the NHS telling me to book, but I'm not getting anywhere. I read that you had to wait 28 days after testing positive to have the vaccine. I'll probably end up at a walk-in centre in a couple of weeks.

Touloser · 05/08/2021 21:23

I guess it depends on location - I had my second jab today and the place was empty (north east). When I got my first one I there was maybe 100 other people getting jabbed at the same time.

Are there any walk in vaccination centres near you?

Antsinyourpanta · 05/08/2021 21:24

The vaccination centres near me were mainly in halls/theatre venues which are starting to reopen. one has relocated to a sort of tent in a carpark but doesnt look like it could do the same volume of vaccinations.

Have you looked up walk ins in your area?

Wellbythebloodyhell · 05/08/2021 21:28

Most 1st doses in my area are walk in rather than appointment, as initially there were too many no shows so changed to mainly walk in. If you have Facebook find your local CCG page they will probably be advertising local walk in clinics

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/08/2021 21:32

I tried to book today for DS and it is giving the nearest as miles away. Not sure why as we have a large centre nearby. Maybe it is the type of vaccine?

There are various walk in centres available. Some places have changed to walk in only instead of appointments.

LIZS · 05/08/2021 21:46

Ds just got a text invitation to book his second one, firsts are mostly walk-ins now. Your local CCG/surgery website should link to a list of sessions and locations or advertised via social media.

saraclara · 05/08/2021 22:01

All the vaccination hubs around me are doing walk-ins every day. There's really no need to book an appointment these days.

saraclara · 05/08/2021 22:03

This is all you need. It finds your nearest walk in centre.

My 12 week was booked for the end of the month but I went to a walk in on Tuesday. The man outside said that they were really quiet this week (I went straight in and was jabbed straight away) but from next week appointments were completely fully booked.

It may coincide with the blood clots fears which caused a dip in take up, then moving the younger people over to pfizer meant a lot of people had their first and there's a bit of a bottleneck.

When I went for my first it was a booked appointment but they'd set up a pop up/walk in over the road, then randomly decided to close it in the middle of the day and sent everyone over to our building... took me two hours over my appointment time to get seen!

Reddit has a forum call getjabbed. People post information about walk-ins

Seriously, you don't need to comb reddit. The govt link I just posted above does it for you in about five seconds.

Why they're not publicising that link everywhere, I don't know. They've deliberately made it easier for young people to get vaccinated by making most centres walk-ins, but not telling anyone.

Here it is again. All it needs is your postcode.

greenleader · 06/08/2021 00:05

Actually it might be worth checking your CCG website as well. I've just had a look at

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/find-a-walk-in-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-site/

for my postcode and the results don't include any of the walk-in or pop-up sites that I know for certain are running in my area, one of which I even walked past earlier today.

Mindymomo · 06/08/2021 08:09

My DS had his second jab at a large hub yesterday, there was only a few people there. They said they would be closing soon as so many people were going to walk ins now at smaller venues.

Nitgel · 06/08/2021 08:15

Thanks for the link sara

gogohm · 06/08/2021 08:27

It's all walk in now, and there's some interesting places too, you can choose from the museum, a Hindu temple or the shopping centre here

YarnOver · 06/08/2021 08:35

It's crazy. In CEV so been eligible since Jan and I've been chased about this almost weekly by NHS.... I've severe allergies so was told I couldn't be vaccinated ...now I've managed to find an allergy clinic in the hospital who will do it there. But when I asked my Dr if I could have the first Pfizer (before it was concluded that my onlu option was the hospital) I was told I'd have to wait 6 weeks as they're not doing anymore first vaccines.....

That made NO sense to me - surely they'd want to vaccinate a CEV 30 something year old?!
