dd1(19) has chronic asthma, I did a +ve pcr yesterday, dd has just done a +lateral flow and is already wheezing. Peak flow down but not worryingly so yet. Have spoken with dr who organizing a prescription for steroids and a loan of an oximeter. Just wondering how other asthmatics have got on, dd can be stable for months but when she gets bad and go down hill and end up in hospital very quickly

My asthma isn’t quite so bad but I do suffer & occasionally need support in hospital.

Covid was extremely mild for me. I’ve had far worse colds. I had a tickly cough & was advised to up my inhalers as a precaution. I don’t think I needed too but maybe it did help.

AFAIK, asthmatics haven't done any worse statistically than those without asthma.

My DD is also 19 year old asthmatic. She has rare, but serious attacks, also ends in hospital. She had covid in January, rather mild symptoms, mostly tiredness. Her asthma didn't flare up. Oximeter is a very useful thing, maybe consider getting one permanently. Good luck!

Good to know, she's currently asleep, I'm wary because a cold has put her in hospital before now

I'm currently recovering from Covid, although my asthma isn't as bad as your dd's (occasional oral steroids, no hospital admissions).

My peak flow was fine throughout, oxygen levels but lower than normal but still okay. I have used my inhaler more, and I'm absolutely shattered, but I've had far worse asthma episodes with colds tbh. Nothing like when I had flu a few years ago.

Hope it is mild for her.

I have severe asthma and had covid. I struggled with breathing and coughing a bit, but managed with just increasing my use of my inhaler. I am double jabbed, though.

My Dd (12) has asthma and had quite a bad cough with it, which was her main symptom. She got quite breathless and wheezy and had to have prednisolone, but nothing near to hospitalisation.

She then retained quite a bad cough for several months after she was recovered, but I’m not sure if that’s connected to the asthma.

It's just a matter of weight and see, in the past she's been fine one day, had a cold the next and in hospital by the third. Hopefully she'll have it mildly(fully vaxed).

My little boy normally gets really bad with just a cold too, slightly wheezy with covid but other than his asthma wasn’t affected at all. Fingers crossed for your daughter

I have asthma too -45+years of differing advice 😵‍💫
If breathing is becoming difficult, up the number of times she takes the ‘preventer’. If normally twice a day, double that, and up to six times is okay, more than that I’d take advice.
It’s also a good idea, if the preventer isn't doing its job, to take Ventolin (or equivalent) prior to each preventer inhalation.
I’ve had bog standard colds send me over the edge and yet been fine with ‘flu. There’s no rhyme nor reason, but increasing your at home dosage is a very helpful tool.
Good luck!
