Holiday nerves

We’ve got a holiday in the U.K. booked on the 16th. Unfortunately kids have to do holiday club next week as I have to work, but so nervous that they’ll be in contact with covid and that’ll be it.

Can’t really do things any differently, but can you offer some advice on calming my nerves about it?

We’ve all had covid and I’m double vaxxed (single parent so no other adult) if that’s at all relevant.

Buy some insurance- staysure covers it - so at least if you have to cancel you'll get some of the money back.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 12:45

They’ve got a Corona guarantee anyway - so they will allow me to cancel. It’s just I really want to go! Thanks though.

I know everyone really wants to go on their holidays - that’s why it was tips to cope with nerves / anxiety rather than a guarantee of going that I need Grin

I know exactly how you feel. We go away tomorrow and I've been a bag of nerves worrying that we'll have to isolate. I can't give many tips to be honest as it's only now that we're the day before that I'm slightly calming down Grin I think having the insurance really helped but this is the first time we've been away in 2 years now so it just seems more important than previous holidays if that makes sense. Such a crappy year and a half for everyone and I just can't wait to get away for a little and see the kids have fun! Fingers crossed for you and I hope you get away without a hitch and have a great time!

GnomeyGnome · 05/08/2021 12:53

Also, really good that you've been double jabbed and you've all had Covid, chances of reinfection are massively reduced.

Santastealer · 05/08/2021 12:56

Yep I’m the same! We go tomorrow morning and I’m dreading the phone ringing all the time!

We’ve limited contact as much as possible over the last week to try and reduce the risk.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 13:00

Thanks @GnomeyGnome and @Santastealer

I have just taken out insurance as well just to be on the safe side!

Hope you both really enjoy your holidays and don’t get any unwelcome calls

Same boat as you, we've been seeing as few people as possible to reduce chances of getting the isolation call, but I know a family isolating due to go next week (as long as no-one else in the house gets it) and another family who have just had to cut a holiday short due to getting Covid.

From the 16th you only have to isolate if you directly have Covid or its in your household so you should be ok to go without a random isolation stopping you.

I can't wait until isolations are over and you can look forward to holidays happening like we used to do!

ExpressDelivery · 05/08/2021 13:07

From 16th, if you're double vaccinated vaccinated and they're U18, you don't need to isolate anyway. I might be inclined to turn my phone off and go away in blissful ignorance.

Meantime, sucruplous hand hygiene, which seems to have been forgotten a bit but is still one of the best protections.

Obviously if any of you did get symptoms you need to do the decent thing

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 13:13

Thanks @RumblyMumbly

I just wasn’t sure if a track and trace from the week before still counter?

OP posts:
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 13:14

Might well turn my phone off when away as I often do that anyway - just for the peace of it!

OP posts:
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 13:14

We’d absolutely do the decent thing if we had symptoms, of course

Just reading the Gov guidance & if you were identified as close contacts by test and trace you will be told to do a PCR test Young people and double vaccinated individuals identified as close contacts will continue to be advised to take a PCR test, to detect the virus and variants of concern. Anyone who tests positive following the PCR test will still be legally required to self-isolate, irrespective of their vaccination status.

www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-to-be-eased-for-fully-vaccinated-adults-in-step-4

Saying that my DC got isolated from school on the Sunday 18th July so was off for the end of term but if it had happened the following day 19th July he wouldn't have been classed as a close contact under test and trace. All getting quite arbritrary.

User5827372728 · 05/08/2021 13:36

I thought from mid aug kids and double vaccinated won’t have to isolate as close contacts?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 14:19

It is getting quite arbitrary i agree rumblymumbly

That’s a good explanation of the change to the system!

OP posts:
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 14:21

But it’s “advised” to take the PCR I notice, not required.

OP posts:
RumblyMumbly · 05/08/2021 15:24

Interesting phraseology - I wonder how that will pan out in schools and workplaces!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 16:57

Yes I wonder.

Was hearing today that workplaces currently have to allow you to isolate, but when they’re only advised to that could be a whole different game!

OP posts:
Watapalava · 05/08/2021 17:20

I imagine then workplaces will say unpaid or take as leave and I agree with that

Some people just love isolating

Re your holiday it’s fine as isolation is no longer legal from then so you picked great time to go

Watapalava · 05/08/2021 17:21

From 16 Aug no one will have to take a test it’s advice only as a contact

Most likely won’t

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2021 19:11

Thanks @Watapalava

If I did book a good time it would be purely by luck as I booked in February
