If you've had Covid, how long did you test positive for (PCR)?

On the back of another question i posted, DD is meant to be travelling to Spain to stay with family on the 16th Aug.

She contracted covid on Wed 21st July and tested positive (PCR) on Monday 26th July. She is only 16 so not vaccinations and I am confused about whether Spain are accepting recovery certificates, so our only hope is a negative PCR.

Can anyone give me 'odds' on her being clear in time?

Thanks!

It can be up to 90 days apparently. I dont know how likely it is to take the full 90 days though. Sorry not much help really am I 🙈

I think you can do the test to show you have had Covid and use that.

I tested on day 15 and was still positive but I didn’t test again so not sure. I did a lateral flow at day 22 and that was negative.

Didn’t test again with a PCR**

Some countries are allowing recovery certificates but I'm not sure that Spain is.

The advice seems to be to not test for 90 days after a positive result see here.

Yeah I think you are right - Spain isn't accepting a certificate of recovery for people coming from the U.K. :(

I tested positive for Covid on 22 July. I only had my first negative LFT today. Don't really wanna do a PCR in case it's positive and I then have to isolate, but do want to do a PCR to see if they are showing negative yet as I want to go away early Oct, am double jabbed but the place I want to go requires full vaccination and a negative PCR!

DD has been getting negative Lateral Flows for days but not so confident about the PCR.

Surely if you tested positive again now, it would be obvious that it was a lingering bit of virus from your previous infection so you wouldn't have to isolate? But maybe not - hence the recommendation to not do another PCR for 90 days. Which is great UNLESS YOU NEED A NEGATIVE PCR!!! So frustrating.

@SlightlyJaded indeed!! I don't think there's any sort of exemption for people who can prove that they have had recent covid but don't have active covid 🙈 perhaps this will change in the future but now, I think as long as you have a positive PCR you need to isolate, can't travel to anywhere that requires a negative PCR, etc. I hope I'm wrong and someone with more up to date info will post tho!

Bumping for reference with updated info in case it's useful to anyone else.

DD tested positive on July 21st. Mild Covid experience: (cough/cold/achy/slight loss of taste and smell) but certainly not asymptomatic.

Her PCR yesterday (12 August) was negative.
