Vaccine passports - how long are they valid for?

makemineadoubleshot · 04/08/2021 13:56

Does anyone know how long vaccine passports are valid for?

Is there a cut-off date post vaccine? 6/12 months etc?

The Schengen Visa website states the passports will run until June 31st 2022: www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/all-details-on-eu-covid-19-passport-revealed-heres-what-you-need-to-know/

I can't find any info for the UK.

Is the consensus everyone will need ongoing boosters to travel abroad or is there hope for those who cannot receive the vaccine to be able to travel again in the not so distant future without a Covid passport?

In the Uk there are no vaccine passports as such. You can get vaccine pass from nhs online vaccination pass. These are valid till the end of august and you will have to log in again to update them. At the moment, there is only going to be boosters for vulnerable snd over 60’s first. Nothing has been mentioned regarding travel in the future, we will have to wait and see.

Good question OP. I've been wondering about the Covid "passport" too., re the booster campaign that's planned in England for September onwards. This seems to suggest that vaccine immunity will only count on a Covid passport for 6 months; I wonder if this means the Covid passport is only planned to be a short-term measure, for 2021-22, and won't be needed after that. Hope so!!

I'm would also like to know whether previous recovery from Covid will count, and for how long, and whether you can take a PCR test prior to going to a large event as an alternative to being vaccinated. I know the news reports seem to suggest that it's double-vaccination or nothing, but surely this is discriminatory to certain groups of people, and a PCR test is a perfectly safe alternative. I believe this is allowed as an alternative to vaccination in France.

After I caught Covid I contacted my local hospital to offer myself as a research subject (they had been one of the hospitals involved in the initial AZ vaccine testing) but they said they weren't doing any studies on natural immunity ....

If anyone knows of one, I would be very interested in taking part. At the moment I'm paying for private antibody testing and I have antibodies 6 months after infection Smile

@BenjiMcSchmenzie discriminatory to who? Those who genuinely can’t have the vaccine will get an exemption, same as other mandatory vaccines.

When you log into your nhs app and see your vaccination status, click on covid pass and it comes up with a Qr code that's valid for 30 days (to get entry to events, travel etc) After 30 days you have to log in again.

Adelphia1977 · 04/08/2021 19:24

Can someone explain how to get the COVID pass?

I've got the NHS app. Put in my details, showed driving licence etc, but I think it expired two weeks later.

Geamhradh · 04/08/2021 20:39

Here in Italy the EU green pass is valid for 9mths after second dose, or 6mth if green pass was issued after a "recovered from Covid" cert.
Presume other countries are more or less the same give or take?

Imgoingbackto505 · 04/08/2021 23:55

@Adelphia1977 what expired? Have you got the actual nhs app that shows time covid vaccinations?

Rosehip10 · 05/08/2021 01:19

@BenjiMcSchmenzie How is a PCR a "perfectly safe alternative" - it is simply a snapshot at the moment you take the test, you could be negative the instant you take the test and get infected 15 minutes later.

CovidPassQuestion · 05/08/2021 01:32

Some people's vaccine passes only last 48 hours. I am trying to find out why.

Are they the passes that are based on getting a negative test? Rather than based on double vaccination

Shapesorted · 05/08/2021 15:35

Are you really sure it says June 31st??

makemineadoubleshot · 05/08/2021 16:18

Yes! Just follow the link and you'll see it clearly states:

How Long Will This Document Be Needed?
The scheme is fully running since July 1, 2021, and until June 31, 2022.

Looks like we get an extra day next year too Wink

It’s just the projected end of the scheme. It’s being reviewed in May, and it’ll be extended then if it’s needed. There’s no way to tell if it will be or not yet; there’s no discussions ongoing about it. This is a pretty standard way to introduce this type of thing - it’s a standard year long scheme until it’s reviewed.

You can read nothing into this from either side.

Adelphia1977 · 05/08/2021 19:16

Sorry I'm really confused. Can anyone help me by showing me what the app looks like and what I have to do. I can't remember now if it showed when we had the vaccine. Maybe I have the wrong app?!

MaxNormal · 05/08/2021 19:19

There aren't any mandatory vaccines in the UK to date. And I'm still waiting in breathless anticipation to hear anything about my covid vaccine exemption, but since they are still cocking around deciding if they want to introduce domestic passports, in what contexts, and if tests are an alternative, I'm not holding my breathe for any immediate clarity.

Fun times though.

You know that you can still catch and pass covid even if vaccinated right?

Amberduck · 05/08/2021 19:47

I have just tried twice today to get my covid pass as I am going to a theatre on Saturday and it is only coming up as valid for 48 hours from login despite me being double jabbed. Very confused!

Amberduck · 05/08/2021 19:58

Actually just completed the full registration to view medical records (where you need to give photo is) and the pass is now showing as valid for 30 days!

You need the main NHS App not the NHS Covid 19 App if this helps?
CovidPassQuestion · 05/08/2021 20:26

@Imgoingbackto505 no- DH has had two doses of vaccine and his pass only ever lasts two days Hmm
