Advice after being in contact

A housemate was in contact with work colleague 2 days ago. Yesterday the colleague tested negative for covid and today tested positive. Housemate has taken test and is awaiting result. Should my housemate isolate even if test comes back negative? Or can he return to work?

They should still isolate for 10 days as they will be in the incubation period. Dont think this info has changed just yet

Yes self isolate for 10 days.

Pissinthepottyplease · 03/08/2021 14:04

He needs to isolate unless he is one of the key worker roles which has other systems of daily testing in place.

Abraxan · 03/08/2021 15:06

Before 16 August they should isolate for the full 10 days regardless of their test result - unless they are part of an approved testing trial where isolation is replaced with daily testing.

After 16 August the rules change and they won't need to isolate if it happens again so long as they are fully vaccinated.

He tested negative and won't listen to any advice, or isolate for the 10 days. I'm worried this is putting the rest of us at risk. Is there any advice on what I can do please.

You say 'in contact' with a colleague - what did that entail? If the colleague tested positive yesterday, Test and Trace should be in touch soon if your housemate is considered to be a close contact.

Try not to be in the same room as him
Keep house windows open as much as possible
Wipe down surfaces/frequent touch points (door handles, light switches etc) often
Keep washing your hands frequently

My housemate gave his covid positive colleague a few lifts in his car.

@Seeline

Only if the contact names him.

I know that a lot of people are not naming contacts for T&T. - kind of like a pact between them.

I'm not agreeing with this btw, just that he may well never be contacted unless the person with Covid actually passes in their details.

Exactly so worried he may pass it on indoors as he may be contagious.
