Long covid from delta post double vaccination?

I’m wondering whether anyone has had delta after two vaccines and feels like they’ve developed long covid? I know delta hasn’t been around that long and I’m not sure if it’s too early to get this data but I haven’t seen any information on it.
This is the only thing which concerns me about catching delta after two vaccines.

Zoe app considers long covid to be life limiting symptoms after 12 weeks of catching covid. How long has the Delta variant been around?

JS87 · 03/08/2021 09:48

Since April I think so I’m not sure if it’s too early.

I think it's too early

It's likely cases will (if there are any) start showing up soon, but long covid NHS clinics are still somewhat variable, so it might take a while for diagnoses and then collection/collation of data.

As long covid appears unrelated to severity of initial illness, I would expect it will occur. But right now it's wait and see

There’s still a small chance you could get seriously ill or even die after being jabbed so I wouldn’t be surprised if you could get long Covid too.

I’m hardly going to stop living my life because of it though. I mean I could get diagnosed with cancer in a month or hit by a car next week so best just to add it to the already long list of risks you take every day.

Nobody knows the answer but It is an interesting question. Personally having had long Covid for 16 months (now 90% recovered) i know that a vast proportion of the long haulers from the first / second wave had organ damage as part of their long covid. This has all been seen on imaging studies since (eg. Coverscan). Covid was awful for me in the 'acute' bit and lasted 12 weeks of proper illness, fevers, cough, heart / chest pain, crippling fatigue etc that led to multiple organ inflammation / mild damage which showed up 6 months after on scans and in addition the severe fatigue brain fog etc. Personally I am hopeful that if people get 'long covid' after vaccines it will be more 'normal' post viral fatigue. I am not saying it won't be bad/impact life but if I had not had the 12 week horrendous acute stage and organ damage I am certain I wouldn't been as ill for as long as I have been if that makes sense. I am not in anyway medically trained but from friends I have witnessed get Covid post vaccine (some after one dose, some two) they have all been quite unwell for 2-3 weeks then felt recovered but with some lingering but light ish fatigue. None has had a very long acute stage or any organ damage visible (yet). Their expereinces sound about 10-20% in terms of the severity of what many of the long haulers pre vaccine experienced (although not all as some did report very mild symptoms early on). Hopefully if people do continue to develop it it will be less severe / long term. Many long haulers from the first and second time are still nowhere near recovered and are unable to work. There is a young 23 year old woman I know of who is now wheelchair bound after being a marathon runner previously. I feel I have been relatively lucky to be 90% over it however still have to be very careful, cannot exercise properly or work FT. I am still awaiting my second vaccine and can't wait to get it!

@bluetongue I agree with this. We cannot foresee the future, we can only protect ourselves as much as possible (vaccines, taking care of health, low stress etc). Despite having a terrible experience personally I DO want to live my life again despite there being a risk!

Zoe app webinar last week reporting that risk of long covid after 2 vaccinations is reduced ten fold.
Pfizer reduces risk of catching delta after 2 vaccinations by 88% AZ by 66% so that combined with reduction in long covid risk means you would have to be a very unfortunate few.

JS87 · 03/08/2021 18:30

Thanks Scottishskifun

I had enough long covid type side effects from my covid vaccinations that I don’t really want to get any more from a dose of delta.

No problem
I'm 4 months into long covid it's a bitch (caught before vaccination) but the data coming out so far is a big reduction.

So perhaps higher risk if AZ?

Hopefully mRNA boosters will help in that regard.

Scottishskifun · 03/08/2021 23:57

@Tealightsandd greater chance of catching delta compared to Pfizer yes but still reduction in risk of long covid.

Tealightsandd · 04/08/2021 01:34

@Scottishskifun
Definitely good news for the vaccinated.
