How, likely am i to contract covid

x2boys · 01/08/2021 21:31

My Ds tested positive on a lateral flow test on Wednesday for covid it was confirmed on friday evening with a PCR
Hes keeping to his room as much as possible, but we live in a small two bedroom house with only one bathroom myself and DH are bith fully vaccinated with pfizer and are currently testing negative, is it inevitable we will contract it?

I would say it's pretty likely given proximity.

Nikki305 · 01/08/2021 21:34

Not at all. Vaccines are very effective (although not 100%). Good luck!

YarnOver · 01/08/2021 21:34

Extremely likely

Totallydefeated · 01/08/2021 21:35

You may well get it, but highly unlikely to be very ill with it, as you're vaccinated.

BramblyHedge · 01/08/2021 21:36

We are a family of five. DD, 10 got it and the rest of us didn't. She kept away from us but we do have two bathrooms.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 01/08/2021 21:37

Double vaccinated and I caught it. My dh didn't. 3 out of 5 dc also did. We still shared a bed..

delilahbucket · 01/08/2021 21:37

I would say 50/50. I know if someone who was extremely poorly with Covid, but neither her husband nor 91 year old mother living with her caught it. This was before vaccines.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 01/08/2021 21:39

i didnt catch it
we were careful, dd used the bathroom last and wiped it over, stayed in her room, meals in her room.

2chooze · 01/08/2021 21:40

My two are both primary age. The youngest had covid last month. The rest of us did not get it despite interacting with her as normal. I am double vaccinated with Pfizer, husband was a week post second AZ, and older daughter only 8 so not vaccinated. We all did PCR half way through, and lateral flows day 8 and day 10 (and have done a few tests since and all negative). So it is definitely not a given you will catch it.

daisydalrymple · 01/08/2021 21:41

Ds1 tested positive a week last Friday on LFT, PCR confirmed Saturday. He’s kept to his room or the garden, worn a mask for the bathroom and wiped handles he’s touched when he’s been in there, he has anti bac wipes / gel in his room.
We’ve been taking all his meals and drinks up to his room for him unless we’ve all eaten outside, in which case he’s been 2 metres away from us.
Isolation is over for us all on Tuesday, and so far we’ve all avoided catching it. Me, DH and DS2 had Covid at Christmas. DH is double vaxed (Pfizer), me single with Astra. Dd shared a water bottle with ds1 the day he had the positive LFT and she hasn’t got it so far either. (I was at work when they shared the drink, it was only when I got home that night and noticed he sounded full of cold I insisted on the LFT straight away).

We’ve all had both lots of recommended PCR on days 2&8, and all come back negative so far, so keeping everything crossed for the final stretch.

Good luck.

1wilma1 · 01/08/2021 21:42

We are a family of 8, my daughter had a positive lft followed by pcr and has isolated from the rest of the house, I have had a positive lft this morning on day 9 of isolation. No one else has any symptoms. Dh and me are double vaccinated with Pfizer, my adult son has had 1 Pfizer jab.
You may be lucky and get away with it 🤞

GrandmasCat · 01/08/2021 21:45

I think you will get it, but will be mild.

Stay in, you don’t want to pass it on to a stranger than then takes on to someone vulnerable/un vaccinated.

caughtinanet · 01/08/2021 21:47

@YarnOver

Extremely likely
Why do you say that? Pre vaccines household transmission was pretty much agreed to be around 50%, it will be lower than that now

It was never extremely likely

TheMawisbraw · 01/08/2021 21:56

My son tested posting on Wednesday morning in his own room, using a separate toilet but had to use our shower a few times, my 53 year old husband is unvaccinated (due to a number of reasons not registered then an infection etc) and not caught It so far, touch wood. My daughter and I had been in very close contact with my son up until the positive result and also are negative. So it’s not inevitable, just keep windows open and practice good hygiene

Neverrains · 01/08/2021 21:58

Out of 5 of us only 1 got it, they didn’t pass it to anyone. 2 of us vaccinated, 3 (including the one who tested positive) not. We didn’t keep to separate rooms or anything. So it’s not inevitable.

Darbs76 · 01/08/2021 22:10

We all caught it when my DS did but I know many other families where only 1 or 2 people caught it.

Darbs76 · 01/08/2021 22:12

Should have added I’m double jabbed but caught it and passed it on. Still suffering 2,5wks on, the unvaccinated ones aren’t though!

justmetoday · 01/08/2021 22:19

Im vaccinated now, but a couple months ago my DDs teacher was positive. A week later still DD still had no symptoms. She came to cuddle with me in the morning and kissed me on the mouth. A couple hours later we did a test because we had a bbq planned and didnt wanna risk anything. She tested positive. The rest uf us was negative. One day later DS wasnt feeling well and i took him to a pcr test. He was positive as well. DH caught it a few days later. By that point i didnt isolate anymore. I just assumed we would all get it and be done with it.
I never got it. DH moved into DDs room to sleep, but other than that we didnt isolate from each other. It would have been too hard to keep away from the little kids. They needed the cuddles and hugs.
So its really impossible to say, but i think if youre vaccinated its unlikely you get it and even if you do, it should be mild.

Unvaccinated here - my DD had covid a month ago and was sharing a bed with me, sat with her brothers, we didn't isolate and wasn't overly fussy with sanitising. None of us caught it.

Didn't isolate within the household rather!! Of course we isolated ourselves from the public though
kimlo · 02/08/2021 06:16

dd1 had it when we were unvaccinated no one else got it.

dd2 has it now. Dh and I are both double vaccinated and neither of us have it yet.

BonnyBarb · 02/08/2021 06:37

My ds had it a few months back. We all isolated as per the guidelines so were in the same house for ten days. It was Christmas so we couldn't bear to be too stringent on keeping him away from us (he's only 10). None of the other 4 of us caught it.

Octaviaa · 02/08/2021 08:02

It isn't inevitable - we didn't catch it from our teen. Dc did isolate to bedroom and we ensured all windows were open and outside doors too when possible. We delivered food to outside the bedroom and dc wore a mask when coming out of room or to walk down to the garden.

ZenNudist · 02/08/2021 08:05

My friends dh got it. She was unvaccinated as this was ages ago. Neither she or her ds got it. They have a very small house and didn't isolate from him.
