Having to test again

So now dh has come down with a cold and slight cough , ds had one about 10 days ago and we all were tested and negative
Now dh started with runny nose yesterday and feeling a little off , which then developed in to a very slight cough so he has gone to test again today and i went as well as have headache ans just incase.
The kids we haven't tested yet as not been near us and havw zero symptoms and eldest only had his covid jab friday .
So now awaiting results and will have to be off work tomorrow and stuck in today.
But on the winter this could happen multiple times as kids often get cough and colds and if I am unwell often get a sore throat and temp, surely something is going to have to be thought of as normal coughs and colds will still be about and with no sd happening much now , I can't see how its possible to keep testing and taking time off work , people on here talk about being positive with just cold symptoms , where do we stop with the testing.
I want to keep others safe of course but at the same time , time off for every cough or cold whilst we all wait results for a few days will be a nightmare

With a bit of luck, the results will come before you need to go to work.
Perhaps it will change to only the person with symptoms having to self-isolate, as long as the rest of the household are vaccinated.

From 16th August you don’t have to isolate any more if you’re a close contact, if you’re a child or you’re double vaccinated. Just daily testing.

rainbowunicorn · 01/08/2021 14:26

As of the 16th of August only the person with symptoms will have to isolate. Even if they test positive it will only be them that has to isolate. The rest of the family can go about their business

Oh ok that will help , will daily testing just be lvt or actually going for pcr?
I had read that but assumed it didn't apply to people in the same household
Me and dh double vaccinated , 17 year old has had one as he is 18 next week and other one is 16 so will be under 18 guidance.
Yes hoping that test result through quick and he is negative a have eldest turning 18 next week and have small party/ bbq planned

Still waiting results , longer than any other time i know for anyone locally so thinking may be positive
Couldn't if happened at a worse time as I have just started a new job and our ds is 18 in a couple days
Likely dh caught from work as has to go in peoples houses and although he still wears a mask , no one else is now .
So frustrating that we have no real measured in now when numbers are so high , yet last year they were a lot less numbers and more restrictions
