2nd pfizer jab and breast feeding pain

youaresunshine · 01/08/2021 07:48

Had my second pfizer jab on Friday. Had a dead arm and aches and pains all over, especially on my left side (jab side).
I am experiencing pain in my left breast. It feels like a stabbing feeling and the whole area throbs and aches. Feeding ds has been really difficult and sore.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Last week, I got bitten by a mosquito and the exit wound (which is 95% healed) is thronging and sore after getting the jab. I have no idea if this is related?

I would be very grateful for any advice or related experiences, just to put my mind at rest. I tend to catastrophise when I'm ill and I had a lot of anxiety around getting the jab.

Have you taken some paracetamol ?

youaresunshine · 01/08/2021 07:51

@DinosaurDiana

Have you taken some paracetamol ?
Yes, but I've taken the max in a 24 hout period so have to wait a little. It did lessen some of the aches but not the breast pain.

How does the boob feel ?
Are there any hard areas ? If so have you tried massaging that area towards the nipple when you feed ?
Are you aware of the symptoms of mastitis, just in case ?

DinosaurDiana · 01/08/2021 07:54

Are you drinking extra water, and eating well ?

youaresunshine · 01/08/2021 07:57

@DinosaurDiana, yes I'm aware of the symptoms of mastitis although have never had it.
Both boobs are super hot. The left one is really tender and aches when touched. I can't even bare to have my quilt cover on it even though I'm cold.

You really need a LOT of water after the jabs, plus a lot for breastfeeding, which comes too much more than you might think. Have you checked mastitis symptoms?

What age is your baby? Where exactly does it hurt, is it like a bruised boob from over-feeding / teething grip, or is the pain deeper? Does lansinoh lanolin cream help, or no difference?

Preg19 · 01/08/2021 08:03

From what you are saying about soreness and hotness it does sound like mastitis to me. You need to try feeding as much as you can even though it hurts and massaging. This should help just watch if you get a fever as you may need anti bs

CandyLeBonBon · 01/08/2021 08:05

Sounds like mastitis.

mrssunshinexxx · 01/08/2021 08:05

If you think you have mastitis ring out of hours and get some help it can get very serious x

MRex · 01/08/2021 08:07

Sorry, just saw you said it's hot. Treat it as mastitis and go to a GP tomorrow if it isn't much better, you don't want to let it get worse as you can end up with bacteria there and abscesses.

Use a very warm wet cloth to steam your boob lots so you can massage it more comfortably, take paracetamol and loads of water. Lots of breastfeeding to try to clear it, even though it hurts the baby can help clear the ducts for you. I hope you feel better soon.

ToddlerLockdown · 01/08/2021 08:13

Sounds like matisitis to me. Go to the gp quickly to get some antibiotics. Can get really nasty very quickly. Feed from them even if it’s painful as will help to remove the infection too- it isn’t bad for the baby.

Flossy05 · 01/08/2021 08:15

You could massage your boob in the bath. The heat and steam will help the milk to flow and you can hopefully massage out any blockages in the milk ducts. If that doesn’t sort it you might need antibiotics.

Thanks for all your replies. I've just fed ds (9mo) and it was painful but feels better after. I've put a hot compress over my boob. The pain has sort of travelled to inside, underneath if that makes sense. But it is definitely less. I'm leaning towards it being an effect of the jab rather than mastitis? I've just taken some more paracetamol and drank water (even though the first sip made me want to throw up.) We don't have an OOH doctor here so if it gets worse, I'll ring 111. Thanks for all your help and advice.

The only way I ever managed to shift the blockages was to massage the milk out until I could see the blocked duct in the nipple. I’d then scrape the yellow milk plug out with a sterile needle and bingo all the milk would suddenly come spurting out. Not a recommended treatment but all the feeding, massage and heat never seemed to work for me.

Why do you think it's the jab, rather than the far more likely suggestion that its mastitis?
youaresunshine · 01/08/2021 09:23

@candylebonbon I'm not 100% sure it's not mastitis.
It only came on when I had aches all over from the jab. The other breast is tender and painful, not as much as the jab side one.
I am keeping an eye on it. My DH is at work and has the car but will come home if I need him.
Paracetamol, feeding and heat has helped. I'm looking after 2 dc and feeling pretty wiped.
I do appreciate all the advice and will ring 111 if it gets worse.
