Just curious to know how other people who are office based are set up now. I work for a big multinational. Our offices are remaining open only for staff who can’t work from home until at least end of August. In September they are talking about you being able to come in 50% of the time (alternate weeks) if you want to and then making it mandatory to come in alternate weeks (so for at least 3 days per fortnight) from October. They’ve already said those dates may be pushed back. In the office we have temp scan on way in, one way system for stairs/corridors, everyone is in masks unless eating/drinking, screens between desks and dining areas set up to allow distancing. Is anyone else seeing similar or are my firm way over on the cautious side? I’m getting work done on my house at the moment so am in the office and it’s so weird being sat on a floor that would normally hold over 150 people on my own. I do think it’s good my employer are trying to be responsible and do the right thing for the local community but idea of being basically alone in the massive office daily for a month is even worse than being alone at home

We’ve had masks off when seated in the office for months. I’ve only been in since May as I was on maternity leave
@Jourdain11 Frankly I don't really care. WFH has been far more efficient for the team as a whole.

There have been a few grumblings from some of the newer younger members but they've all adapted.
Could be that the "newer, younger members" don't enjoy working in their bedrooms and missing out on development and advancement opportunities? They might be frustrated, depressed, or simply feeling in need of some f2f contact and work support from their team.

I'll supply the reply: But they should be grateful that they are at lower risk of death or joining the millions disabled by Long Covid...

@AfternoonToffee

We can't lick each other, that's about the only rule / expectation.
🤣🤣

No mitigations. I work in school busines admin. Esks are less than 2m apart, crammed in small room, no masks, perspex or limits on numbers/visitors.
Air con on, re circulaing inside air.
There's a window.

I think it's because it's a school setting that we've just hd to get on with it.

What an awful management style you seem to have

There's some variation. One company has stayed at home; that have desks for those who desperately want to go in, but encourage people to agree a policy for any shared rooms (masks / windows etc); in practical terms none of them need to be there and they have lots of space to spread out, but usually that only go in for meetings and I notice on calls that a few who are in choose to sit together. The vast majority are at home, but most have arranged meetings in pubs with whoever lives near them, or parking at someone's house to go to an event and visit them at the time etc... all the best socialising rather than sitting working.
Another company has almost everyone in the office; well spaced and masks to move around, but they usually join meetings together with no masks.
A third one has everyone at home, but they all work globally and funny hours anyway, I'm not sure they've had time to notice the pandemic apart from a bit of vaccine commentary earlier in the year from the Europeans.

My mate on the other hand has been told they are fully "back to normal" in an busy US bank. There's a few dividers and sanitiser dotted about, raised eyebrows and grumbles when a couple of team members asked to wait for their second jab before full return. He said he felt really weird with no distancing and they had almost immediate covid cases.

I mostly wfh now, but currently my office has asked for masks only when moving about the building, and that’s it.

Since the mask mandate lifted, most people don’t even adhere to this. There are so few people in at any one time that it feels very safe.

Nanny doesn't seem to give a toss about her staff. If I hadn't already told her to shove her job where the sun don't shine I would now. She clearly has no thought for the well-being of her team, it's all about what she wants. If my company had told me I would be working at my dining table permanently I'd be handing in my notice.

@NannyAndJohn have you done risk assessments on the work stations of your team now they are working from home all the time?

NannyAndJohn · 31/07/2021 21:34

@Jourdain11 They still have all the development and advancement opportunities available to them, just remotely.

Not a single person handed in their notice. And we've been advertising for fully WFH positions and have been getting even more applicants than before.

HR did this, nothing came up.

I'm a teacher.

None. I deserve no better.
