Arm bled after 2nd jab. Is this a problem?

I had my 2nd jab 2 months ago.

At the time it really hurt, unlike the first one which was painless. As I was walking out I saw that there was blood running down my arm, so not just a pinprick. I had to run to the car as there was a lot.

At the time I didn't say anything as I didn't want to complain. But now I've started to worry that it might not have worked properly because of this.

I was thinking of phoning the doctor, but will probably have to make an actual appointment, so don't want to waste their time if I'm just being silly.

I bled after my 2nd, was told because I have tattoos I’m more likely to bleed, was told that there wasn’t a issue with the vaccine not working.

TheTallOakTrees · 30/07/2021 17:06

Is it still bleeding?
Might need to have it amputated. 🤔

Seriously though some times people are a bit rough with the needle. I assume since 2 months ago it stopped bleeding and your arm still works 💪

My arm bled (although not huge amounts). The person doing it said 'ooh it doesn't normally bleed' and then just held some cotton wool on it until it stopped and dismissed me so I think whilst a bit unusual it's not actually a problem.

I bled on my first and the lady doing mine said nearly the exact same thing. Mine bled a lot, like dripping off my elbow Blush and I'm still here one month later, I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine was quite bleedy, she said she probably got a capillary. Doesn’t affect effectiveness though, no need to worry. Got a fab bruise though

Booger123 · 30/07/2021 17:43

It should go into the muscle, that means they hit a blood vessel.

There has been lots of debate about aspiration before injection to check, but our country decided against it, but other countries do it.

There was some talk about it being a possible cause for the blood clots but I do not know how far that got or if it was proven true. Dr John Campbell did a video about it, quite interesting.

I bled with my 2nd one too, the nurse just said I was probably a bit warm (mid heatwave)

Hi
I had blood come down my arm when the lady took
the needle out, she said oh this doesn't normally happen
it soon stopped bleeding. I now have a lovely greenish coloured
bruise.....Wondering if vaccine still effective.
I've had no side effects at all.

Bells3032 · 03/08/2021 11:29

i was volunteering at a vaccine centre and its really not that uncommon to bleed (I bled after my first one). if it stops after a couple of minutes its fine and probably just hit a capillary. it's fine it won't do any harm

Midori575 · 03/08/2021 11:36

Hi Bells3032

Thanks for your quick response back.
Glad I'm not the only one then :)
It did stop bleeding after couple of mins.
i wonder if feeling a bit hot and anxious made it bleed?
Did you have a bruise after your first one?
Any side effects? I haven't had a sore arm or anything.
Just curious to know.
There is a post Booge123 here about Dr John Campbell mentioning possible blood clots?? Have you heard about this?

Bells3032 · 03/08/2021 11:42

@Midori575 I didn't have a bruise but had a sore arm for a few days after both jabs and was a bit tired for a few days. that's it really.

I don't think bleeding has anything to do with blood clots although I am not an expert on the subject matter I am afraid although obv there are risks of a blood clot after all the vaccines.

It may be being hot made it bleed as being hot makes your blood vessels come to the surface (I had mine after a three hour shift running round in a hot surgery) so may be something in there.

Either way it is no harm to you and won't be it less effective.

Cookerhood · 03/08/2021 13:28

I think the blood clot connection was probably dismissed. The reason for it was that there were two early reports of blood clots from the same centre so there was discussion about whether it was down to technique but I think once they understood better what was going on they realised it was unlikely.

Fifthtimelucky · 03/08/2021 14:12

I bled on my first Covid jab and also on the flu jab I had easier in the year.

I warned the person giving me my second jab that I would probably bleed but didn't.

I don't know if technique made any difference. The flu jab was administered by the normal practice nurse, 1st Covid by a doctor and 2nd Covid by a dentist.

I don't have any tattoos by the way.
