School contacted me Friday that someone in my DD class tested positive.
Did lateral flow - negative.
On sat did pcr test - results on Sun - positive.
did another lateral flow on mon - negative.
Ordered follow up PCR as not trusting the results as no symptoms (partner and me tested negative on PCR and on lateral flow).
And today my DD's test come back as negative.

According to the app we still need to self isolate for another 6days.
its all confusing

So in my thinking she is negative and she only need to self isolate for another day as she contacted positive case 10days ago.

Any clever head here?? anyone knows what should we do? still isolate for another 6 days?

A negative PCR does not negate a previous positive. You all need to isolate until next Wednesday.

Lateral flows are totally unreliable - basically only a positive lateral flow is worth trusting - neg lateral flows tell you nothing. A positive pcr means she has covid.

There’s no process by which a negative test can override a positive one. So you need to follow the positive test - she isolates and so do you.

Oh sorry didn’t read the follow up neg pcr. You still need to isolate tho unfortunately.

Whinge · 29/07/2021 19:08

Sorry OP but a negative PCR doesn't overide a postive one, so you all need to continue to isolate.

WovenFish · 29/07/2021 19:09

You need to isolate as she had a positive PCR. No symptoms doesn’t mean no covid.

This really.

You don’t have any evidence to be able to say which PCR test is correct. As there has been a positive you’re obliged to treat that as the correct one within the isolation period.

The LFT isn’t enough to override a PCR result.

Sorry afraid you need to isolate, PCR tests are only really accurate in the first 5 days of the virus be that symptoms or picking it up. Hence later tests will not be as accurate.

They have also found that many children reduce viral load much faster than adults but potentially she is still in a virus shedding stage which means others can contract it. I know it's a pain (we have done 4 isolations with a toddler) new activity books from amazon got us through!

When after covid (finished self isolation) you are allowed to travel internationally??
