Higher blood clots rates from Pfizer?

Scientists compared rates of thrombosis among more than 1.3million recipients of either jab in Spain.

Both vaccines came with a tiny risk of causing blood clots, with scientists branding their safety profiles 'broadly similar'. Pfizer's jab may even be more likely to trigger the rare blood-clotting complication, the data suggested.

and the risk of blood clots from catching covid itself is insanely higher than with any vaccination - I don't have exact numbers to hand but think that's really useful as a grounding piece of info for anyone anxious.

also the blood clot rates with the contraceptive pill are way higher - but catching covid, it's way higher than even with the pill.

Exactly Lubey. There has been so much drama over AZ to the point that people have refused to have it, and in doing so have put themselves and others at greater risk.

Looking at the numbers and graphs in that article proves none of the jabs are “better” than any other, and that catching Covid is MUCH more of a risk than getting vaccinated.

I’d really like to see AZ exonerated on this!!

This doesn't surprise me at all. I thought way back when that all the vaccines would have about the same risk of clotting ie miniscule and certainly less than your chance of getting clots after Covid. AZ needs to be exonerated , I agree, if the data holds.

“Commenting on the study, the researchers noted that a difference in size and demographic makeup of the groups of patients receiving each vaccine introduced a degree of uncertainty into the results.”

If you take all demographics into consideration it might be a wash but there are individual risks. A young man should stay away from Pfizer and a young woman should stay away from AZ.

"In general, rates of thrombosis after vaccination with a first dose of [AstraZeneca] were similar to those seen after a first dose of [Pfizer/BioNTech], although with fewer study participants having received this vaccine, there was greater uncertainty around estimates," they said.

The study included 945,941 recipients of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and 426,272 recipients of AstraZeneca.

While the rate of VTE after vaccination was, for example, around 1.3 fold higher than background rates, it was 8-fold higher after a diagnosis of COVID-19

I think that the AZ vaccine has been a bit unfairly treated.

It was not produced in the EU and only available in limited doses. It is also sold at cost so much cheaper than the others.

There are lot of people who benefits from the AZ being worse than the other vaccines. I hope that isn’t reflected in what is written about it.

Sugarandtime · 29/07/2021 20:59

I must admit, I’ve always been confused as to why the risk of blood clots has always been about the AZ injections when the P injection figures are much the same.
