What was it like? Was it worth it? How much extra did you pay for tests? And where did you go.

Really considering going with DH to mainland Spain. Both been jabbed and able to isolate/work from home if need to when return,

@Pootle40 it seems really unfair that the Scottish testing regime is a monopoly. One of the many reasons we decided not to go this summer, but we are planning to go in October if circumstances permits and it seems really unfair that Scottish people have to pay so much more.

Can I ask those who are away or have been, what is the situation like for hotel restaurants? I usually stay where huge buffets are available but how does this work with covid restrictions?

seconddateshithead · 29/07/2021 08:22

Sorry can I ask where everyone's getting their antigen tests to fly back?!

I've been looking and finding some ridiculous ones. I've not seen the video ones either. How do they work?

Geamhradh · 29/07/2021 08:27
@TinkleTongs in same hotel but we were split into 2 rooms husband in on me and 2 kids in the other(next door) allowed to stay. Insurance only paying for Hubble we have to pay for ourselves(75pppn)
We can only order off the room service menu hoping to go home Monday
Oh no. Hope it all passes quickly and you get home on Monday Flowers

This is what worries me. I'm coming other direction (Italy to UK) and after yesterday's news that UK lifting quarantine just waiting a bit to see if Italy does the same and lifts the inbound 5 days, but am still not sure. I'm double jabbed, DD will have had one, but my fear is exactly what's happened to you.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 29/07/2021 08:33

@Pootle40 can't you do the 5 day test to release if you live in England? I'm thinking of people who live in Northern England and would fly out of Edinburgh or Glasgow. They'd presumably have to buy the expensive Scottish tests as they are flying into Scotland, but can't they then buy the 5 day TTR test later if they live and are quarrantuning in England? This is what I took that post to mean.

In Italy we had buffet breakfasts, but all food was served up to you by a member of staff - they put what you asked for on your plate. In French stop over hotels we could help ourselves - though in one they gave everyone their own set of tongs.

I thought it was based on where you fly back to?

In Majorca it was very easy to book online and clinic was right in the resort. 30 euros each. Results were emailed in 15 minutes

Us Scottish royally shafted again Confused

FloFlower · 29/07/2021 09:02

@Pootle40 we live in England so were eligible to do the day 5 test to release.

I looked into this quite carefully before we travelled and the test and trace people didn’t question it nor did the border force people on arrival.

I think it’s just if you live in Scotland that you can’t do the test to release.

farfallarocks · 29/07/2021 09:15

Greece, no tests to enter as double jabbed and kids under 12. Very easy at the airport both sides. Sitting poolside now and total bliss. No masks in restaurants and feels very much like normal life back here.

farfallarocks · 29/07/2021 09:17

We have antigen tests for return flight ( £29, you do the test yourself and send a pic of it with your passport and they issue a certificate) but our hotel has a testing centre right here.

seconddateshithead · 29/07/2021 11:54

Thanks @Pootle40 and @farfallarocks

I'm travelling on my own so just me to rely on!

This sounds perfect.
So did you not need any tests before you flew out?
Will you need tests to come back?

OP posts:
farfallarocks · 29/07/2021 22:00

None to fly out. We will need an antigen test prior to flying back and a PCR on day 2 although that might be relaxed too by the looks of things!

poppym12 · 30/07/2021 13:27

Thank you @NordicBerry. I thought the help yourself buffet style would be off limits.
